TLDR : Answer Summary
Several users report that Thai banks, such as Bangkok Bank, may freeze accounts, particularly if the account holder does not possess a long-term visa, such as a marriage visa, retirement visa, or volunteer visa. Activating or maintaining an account often requires proof of a longer-term visa like the NON-O visa. Some users have successfully maintained accounts under tourist visas or education visas without issues, indicating variability based on the bank's policies.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.
  • Join the Thai Visa Advice Facebook Group to ask your questions, and get advice from others.

Bangkok bank freezes accounts with a request for an Account Verification Letter addressed to immigration.

An Account Verification Letter addressed to “Whom it may concern” does not require funds to be frozen.

Why not? They are a person of concern.

Ask you immigration, if “to whom it may concern” is acceptable.

Back in the Embassy affidavit days, that paperwork used “to whom it may concern.”

Long-term visa or extension. Like marriage to Thai, retirement, volunteer, etc.

"basic" visa doesn't mean anything. That's not an immigration term.

Owning property isn't really relevant. Banks don't care about that, they care about the visa status.

No tourist visa, including DTV. Visas/extensions that allow a one-year stay are OK.
