Do I have to book the exact flight I stated in my visa application for Thailand?

Jul 29, 2025
⚠️ Help please - applying from Ireland w/ London embassy and within 45 minutes of application being sent in I have received request for proof of my flight to Thailand.

I was delayed in applying initially and my course documents said 9th August, so that’s what I entered into application.

I now have to book the exact flight that I said in my application?

Can I book a different/later flight? Or should I book this one and cancel if not able to fly so soon? 😞

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user received a request for proof of their flight to Thailand shortly after submitting a visa application. They initially indicated a flight that would arrive before their course start date, but are now unsure whether they must book that exact flight or if they can opt for a different one. Community members suggest booking a flexible or refundable ticket to meet visa requirements, emphasizing that it’s important to show proof of arrival before the course begins, rather than being tied to the originally stated flight.

2 options - book the exact flight with a flexible ticket so you can move the date or book another flight.

I do not think you need to book the exact flight but you do need to show you are arriving before your course starts - this is probably what they want evidence for since it’s very soon

Given your course starts in 9 days it would seem reasonable that you already have a flight booked to arrive in time for your course. If you supply the ticket they will likely process your application quickly

I had the same request from London, workation, dtv. The only request I had and approved after I sent the pdf ..

The flight I booked was a few days later than what I had started on the application.

Wow they've obviously ramped up that requirement, when I did it in HCMC they only asked for the flight number, as others have said don't mess around just book a refundable flight and jobs a good en

So for the ticket, I booked a different date than what I put on the application, but I also didn’t have anything sent back but what I did was I bought a ticket on Emirates that’s fully refundable because they is always giving me a refund within like a week, and with the application I gave them the Emirates booking and when I got the visa, I canceled the Emirates ticket got the full refund and then I bought a cheap ticket on Singapore airlines because I was not actually sure when I was gonna come.

Please book a fully refundable ticket which may cost more but still be better than losing it all in case Visa doesn’t come in time. You don’t need a round trip ticket for DTV

Since you state your course starts next week, they will want to see a ticket that arrives before the start date. However, it is also a little suspect that you just applied 45 minutes earlier but your departure details are already wrong.

Make sure to book a round trip for 6 months to Thailand

But it's not required.

No it doesn't have to be your initially intended flight or date. I would definitely get a flight that corresponds to you starting your soft power course on time.
