TLDR : Answer Summary
This discussion revolves around how expats in Thailand manage their schedules while working night hours (9 PM to 5 AM). Participants share their daily routines, including sleep strategies, activities during their off hours, and challenges of night shifts. Common tips include using blackout curtains for better sleep, being flexible with sleep patterns, and recognizing the local culture's approach to work/life balance, given Thailand's hot daytime climate.

I work from 1am to 9am Tuesday to Saturday. I go about my day after (Thai classes mostly) and sleep around 5-6pm.
I don’t do dinners or nights out during the week but once Saturday comes I can either rest, go to dinners, nights out and see my friends.
Works really well for me. It’s a small sacrifice I have accepted to live intentionally the way I want to.

That’s tricky - I do 4pm til 12pm (UK hours) and it’s fine for me.
You’re doing a proper night shift so I’m guessing you don’t see much sun 😢
Not a simple solution but I’ve seen Americans and Brits on DTV with remote jobs from Singapore with much friendlier hours

When I realized I was spending most of my days inside and would only go out after 4:30 or 5:90 in the afternoon I came to learn that that is a very Thai wad of work/life balance because it’s so hot outside during the day much of the time. In several books I’ve read about Thailand I have confirmed it. N many ways Bangkok is a morning town, but it’s much more of a night city if you pay attention
if you are in Bangkok there are things going on at all times. You simply have to adapt.

I work from 19:30 to 04:30. I go to bed immediately after. I usually wake up around 11:30, then between 12:00 and 17:00 I do whatever. Then I come home and nap before work.Get black out curtains too. That helps tremendously
Once you get the routine going, it isn't bad. I like it. I get more daylight to do things with my family. I'm not a party-time person, so working nights doesn't hurt me. There are pros and cons, like anything. But for me, it's easy. I do stay on my schedule during the weekends for the most part. I bought a gaming PC to entertain me during the late hours.
good advice.. I definitely get some boredom creeping in and that leads to "distractions" that aren't helping with routine. A gaming CPU would is a great idea

It all depends on your job and how it effects you
2100-0500 is a struggle because most people hate night shifts
If you work a traditional schedule M-F…then your off days really Sat Sun and most of Monday
So you either do something on Saturday do something on Sunday then rest on Monday
Or reverse it
My only advice is this…I’ve worked night shifts for 20+ years and through my experience is this…be unpredictable with your sleep patterns so you don’t get into a true routine…sleep early for a few weeks…sleep late for a few weeks…sleep intermittently for a few weeks
So your body never gets into s routine where you feel unable to go out and do anything
