Hi all, Apologies as I know that this might not be the right page to post on however I am moving to Thailand on 1st December on the DTV visa and will be living in Rawai or chalong and I’m extremely into fitness, unfortunately the remote job position I was offered in the UK has now backed out and I am concerned that I am going to be coming out there with no form of remote job. I’d be grateful if anyone in this group can help point me in the right direction or know of any remote opportunities! I’ve worked within the corporate world for the last 12 years at various levels and my skillset and work ethic is second to none.

I have high levels of experience within property management, quality assurance, technical monitoring, surveying, sales, data analysis, people management, analytical skills, renewable energy, virtual assistance, operations management, project planning, property law, real estate, stocks and shares, building surveying and retrofit which I believe are transferable to a lot of industries.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat moving to Thailand with a DTV visa is seeking advice on finding remote work after a job offer from the UK fell through. Despite having extensive experience in various corporate roles, concerns are raised about the reality of finding jobs in Thailand, where competition is fierce and language proficiency may be required. Responses suggest focusing on online income sources, leveraging skills in fitness or nutrition coaching, and acknowledging the challenges of securing a job based purely on experience.

hes literally asking for remote opportunities, not a job in thailand. You see the word "remote" implies you can work from anywhere in the world. Crazy how that works!

If you already have the visa, it doesn't really matter anymore. If you don't, then you better figure out a way to qualify quickly.

Play to your strengths and become an online fitness/nutrition coach. Spin up a website, which isn’t difficult, and pay for professional marketing to get it out there. Good luck.

I don’t think I’d move to another country without a reliable job in place or reliable income stream of some sort.

You want real? You NEED online income. Either go home and stack, DTV is multiple re entry you have no problem, or keep working on the trading and go all in so it can become your primary income. You have to have an online income it’s non negotiable you’ll run out after a few months even with a few £k in savings

Import/ export operations with full understanding of thai customs and importing policies and laws.

Visa assistance with consular connections and a full understanding of thai immigration policies and laws

Tax agent fully understanding of thai tax law and policies.

And be fluent in Thai, both written and spoken with all local dialects.

So basically no chance. And if we did know wouldnt we take it for our selves.

data analysis is a great way to work remotely but you need to be better than AI generated algorithms and can be great at detection flaws in data which normally comes from years of field experience, then stepping up to an office based job.

Be an asset to Thailand. Have something that adds value and let's you share your skills and knowledge with locals.

if you hit big ($30-$45k) on a series of trades in a month or week or over 3 months you can take the rest of the year off

It’s cheap to live here if and only if you can budget your money, limit your “entertainment” expenses to a few times a month

You can live a great life here stress free

Everyone thinks their western experience is transferable, however, this is Thailand. You have to be able read, speak and write Thai. Also you need a skill no Thai's have as they do not get paid much, not what you would probably be expecting. There are 10,000+ people on any given day looking for a remote job so they can live in Thailand and be able to afford it. This is the reality of Thailand. It will be solely up to you to find a remote job because everyone else wanting to come here is looking for the same opportunity.

i don't read Thai, I don't speak any Thai, I don't have skills better than locals, i work Thai company few hours on weekdays, I get decent salary, I have non immigrant visa, I have workpermit. If you have nothing good to say, there's no point in scaring people.

So why paint a perfect picture? I'd rather know reality over pie in the sky dreams that'll likely not happen.

Out of 300,000+ expats in Thailand, how many do you know exactly that has a job? Come on, tell us the truth? How many do you personally know? I bet the percentage is less than 0.001% but you are probably not that smart in math to figure it out. You are the exception, not the rule.
