What steps should I take if facing delays in dependent visa processing for Thailand at the HCMC embassy?

Update: Visa Received today at 5:00 pm :)

——————————————————————————

Hi All, need some clarity if anyone else has gone through this at HCMC, Vietnam.

My application is for dependent DTV’s for me and my son. My wife already has her DTV since November 2025.

24/02/26 - Application Submitted

02/03/26 - 1st Additional Request for documents

- Full Passport Scan

- DTV visa for my wife (This had already been shared)

- Birth Certificate of my son (This had already been shared)

- Current location (This also had already been shared)

(Requested documents submitted on same day)

09/03/26 - 2nd Additional Request for documents.

- Full Passport Scan (They say take a photo of every page with timestamps & not a scan, really random to be honest. I had shared all hotel bookings, visa stamps, photos, boarding pass etc in the initial application itself)

- DTV visa for my wife again & employment details( she is on soft power and all this was already clearly shared in the initial application along with stable THB 2M+ bank savings and deposits, we gave 6 months of statements with THB 2M+ consistent)

- Birth Certificate of my son (This had already been shared, so random)

- Current location (This also had already been shared twice)

It’s been a total of 17 days and it’s still stuck in Processing Pending Document Check (1).

We need to leave the country on March 15 as my e-visa will expire. What do you suggest that we do? just write an email to the Embassy to expedite because calling them has been useless as nobody picks up the calls?

Honestly, I thought the dependent visa will be simple as the documentation is pretty straightforward and everything has been given on the initial application date itself.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user shares an update on their visa application for dependent DTVs for themselves and their son, noting an exasperating series of document requests and processing delays from the embassy in HCMC, Vietnam. After a long wait and several requested documents that were already submitted, they were concerned about leaving Vietnam before their e-visa expired. Eventually, they received their visa approval amidst discussions with others on the forum regarding the complexities of applying under the correct visa category and the experience of obtaining their visas.

Once the application is submitted. There is no way to expedite. If you dont get visa before your last day stay in vietnam, you may go to like an visa agent in vietnam to extend your stay in vietnam

You will get it before the 15th. My wife and child submitted their visa, they also asked for additional documents and 3 days later I received it, so i think you’ll get it before the 15th.

yep, it is al simply, 3 people without income in Thailand.

Even the Embassy staff know that that is not going to work out well, special with the extra costs of doing a course for your wife and the travel costs every 180 days as Immigration does check the documents a little more strict.

Noted. I have also shared my Bank statements for the last six months with a balance of THB 1M every month and also i am a remote worker, so have consistent income in excess of $3000 every month apart from the savings. Total THB 3M+ in savings plus monthly regular income.

Point noted. Although i would like to clarify I didn’t mention that i am unemployed & have therefore shared my work docs & financials with the embassy. We applied under the dependent category as my wife is genuinely training for her Muay Thai in Hua Hin. The dependent category doesn’t mention anything specific about the work scenario to be honest & financial evidence of sustaining can be provided by both the DTV holder & the applicant. Anyways let’s wait for them to get back and i will update.

It does not matter what you shared.

Your intention is to work on-line in Thailand with the incorrect visa.

Now you worry and keep asking questions.

You could have applied for the correct visa and all would be done by now.

WHY must it be mentioned twice, three times or how many more times.

IF an applicant can NOT read the first line of text, why would it help to explain it over and over again.

Even now you still do not except your decision to ignore remote worker.

It was all your choice.

I am not allowed to work in Thailand locally & i am not working in Thailand but managing my business outside Thailand. I have applied under a dependent category, so i doubt this is a violation of any kind. All my bank statements and clients are all abroad. I have mentioned everything in my cover letter clearly regarding my work situation and there was no objection from the embassy in this matter. In the additional documents they asked for my employment status and I mentioned everything clearly.

If you want to work on line as remote worker or as you name it managing your business, you apply for the purpose remote worker,

NOT as being unemployed and depending on your missus.

Strange that you doutbt as the different is very easy to spot

Did you not see the correct option with remote worker on the website

Here you go.

You are remote worker but apply for a visa that does NOT allow you to work.

Try again with the correct purpose, it might help as you signed to be true and honest in your application.

So, did you check the update? The visa was granted even though the application was submitted under the supposedly wrong visa category.

Yes, people are allowed to apply for a visa with purpose of their choice.

IT does NOT allow them to do activities who are NOT allowed under their visa of their choice.

Remote workers can come on holiday to Thailand using tourist visa, or being dependent, it does not allow them to work.

People can come to Thailand using a Non Immigrant O visa based on retirement, it does not make them married to a Thai Citiizen or allows them to do volunteer work or even worse, make them a child under 20 years of age.

a Person choose a visa with purpose and follows the rules of the visa.
