Thanks to help from people on this site I was able to get my letter from the American Embassy in BBK by e-mail in a matter of hours. I went to Jomtien immigration this morning (6 am and was 7th in line) and by the time the doors opened there was a looong line but I was out by 9am with a 30 day extension to my "visa exemption". One interesting fact is that the the lady who checked my paperwork told me to keep my letter in case I needed another extension. Now, waiting to see if my JAL flight on Monday to Tokyo is a "go" or if it canceled like my Cathay Pacific flight. Again, thank you to the people who freely gave me help. This a very useful site!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The author successfully obtained a 30-day extension for their visa exemption in Thailand after receiving a helpful letter from the American Embassy. They visited Jomtien immigration early in the morning and encountered a long line but completed the process by 9 am. A commenter provided insights about the need (or lack thereof) for a letter for the first extension, and others discussed concerns about health risks at crowded venues.

Sounds a LOT to me like you hadn't gotten your FIRST 30 day extension from your 30 day visa exempt entry yet, because you don't NEED a letter to get that :P

You've been able to get one 30 day extension on a 30 day visa exempt entry since Aug 29, 2014 :O

No kidding for some reason they had 4 flight cancel at 17h15 to DMK, 2 with bangkok airways, 2 with a black logo I dont recognize the airline.

It seems like Subarnabu dont cancel much maybe because there is a lot of layovers? DMK its only for domestic atm.

Most of the flight to Don Mueang are getting cancel. I saw the screen board both yesterday and today. Don Mueang is pretty much dead at this point. Most flight to Subarnhabu (cant spell), are going. This is a pic of dead gate now in CM, 4 flight to DMK cancel.

You are correct. Evidently, I did not need the letter this time but now that I have the letter it will come in handy if if have to stay longer due to the possible cancelation of my JAL flight to Tokyo on Monday.
