What should I expect when entering Thailand with a DTV visa?

Report/ experience share: European male DTV holder (Cultural Option) here. I recently re-entered TH for the first time in '25 via Suvarnabhumi. (1st time was via Train Lao - TH in late '24). Following questions asked: A) "Do you work remotely?" I said truthfully 'yes, remotely'. B) "How long do you stay in TH this time?" I said truthfully: 3 to 4 months. C) 'You changed Visa last year from another Visa to DTV? [Looking at lots of old stamps...]. I said: Yes.

-Then she stamped me. No 'welcome to Thailand' was heard this time.. Okay - I love 🫶 🇹🇭 you anyways, dear Thailand! (Guess I'm *still* in honeymoon phase ;)

TLDR : Answer Summary
A European male recounts his recent experience re-entering Thailand with a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) at Suvarnabhumi Airport, highlighting the immigration questions he faced related to his visa status and length of stay. Comments from others indicate that questioning by immigration officials is common for all visa holders, and there are mixed opinions on the demeanor of officials during the process.

Yes, it can happen, and that was pretty mild for you. You're another example showing that questions can be asked at entry points for any type of visa holder.

Unless you just started working remotely since you had DTV it would be obvious to her you were working illegally while on ED. Thousands have been doing it but it does not change the fact it was technically illegal. :-)

almost the same question asked to me - a women from the BKK immigration airport.. 😅

What visa did you change from? Where did you get the DTV?

@Sean ******
in reality there is no „switching“. you would cancel your ED with leaving the country and then start a new visa process for the DTV. its not the typical „change of visa“ inside thailand thing

sure: I canceled it in immigration. Then had to leave TH within 7 days or so. Then applied and received the DTV inside Lao.

Previous ED; and DTV I got in Lao. FYI switching from ED to DTV also solved all my ED-problems.

Maybe she was tired or had stuff going on. There's no rule that thai immigration officials have to say welcome to Thailand. Their job is checking documentation not catering to people. If you wanted someone catering to your entitled self then fork out the money for a privilege visa and the concierge person will glady pamper you

It’s always amusing to read comments about whether the officer smiled or not when presented with the DTV, as if people were carrying something extraordinary while holding the cheapest visa available. Obtaining tea money from this type of visa is becoming more challenging, which immigration officers are starting to realize. 😂

Anonymous participant 940 I'd be scared to commit an 'illegal' act paying tea money to the airport immigration officer?

Anonymous participant they said maybe certain officers are upset that more people are getting dtv visa instead of the monthly border bounce on tourist visa where some people use agents to grease some palms of officers for stamps. Not saying that this is the case. They could just be tired or don't feel like faking it all day long. At least they weren't outright rude to you, then you can complain
