What should I expect during my DTV Dependent Visa interview in Vientiane?

Hi everyone, I saw a post in other group a few days ago from someone who applied for a DTV Dependent Visa in Vientiane, Laos and mentioned that they were called for an interview.

I would like to ask if there are any other DTV dependents here who were also called for an interview?

If so:

* What questions were you asked?

* What additional documents did they request you to bring?

My spouse was granted a DTV (Digital Nomad category) last year and is already the main DTV holder. I am now planning to apply separately as a DTV dependent.

For my application, I plan to submit:

* A sponsor letter from my spouse (the main DTV holder)

* My spouse’s foreign bank account (USD) as proof of funds

If the embassy asks to see the bank account on a mobile phone, the account will be under my spouse’s name, not mine and which I don’t have on my mobile. Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did you demonstrate that the funds belonged to the main DTV holder who was sponsoring you?

Also, for those who attended an interview, did you bring printed bank statements (PDFs) along with the original supporting documents?

I would really appreciate hearing about your experience. Thank you very much in advance! 🙏

A potential MA hasn't got the gumption to try the easiest option first? Quickly into responses of failures by Embassies causing questions upon entry. Next up worries about possible issues at both Embassies and Immigration.

Remain on DTV. That is, of course, assuming this post is genuine.

Do it at the local Thai immigration office before you leave Thailand

Why would you want to give up a 5 year DTV multiple entry tourist visa for an Ed Visa for Masters Degree study?

Is an Ed Visa being required by the university to register for the Master's degree course of study or by Thai Immigration ?

Is it not possible to attend classes which likely will be held on weekend classes (as many attract Thais working during the weekdays) while you hold a DTV Visa ?

Surely it's not because you may be able to open a Thai bank account, or is that your motivation?

Traveling outside of Thailand during the course of study with the Ed Visa will likely be questioned by Thai Immigration Officers upon arrival back into Thailand.

Pardon me..... BUT am curious what you REALLY want to do.

Hi there, thanks for your reply! I am a remote worker on DTV, and found a masters course I would like to pursue here in Bangkok from Chulalongkorn University. I believe we need to be in Thailand with the right visa that matches with the purpose of your stay. 😇 Therefore getting ED visa is the correct path I should follow.

I’m not paying 800,000 baht of school fees just to get a bank account here and I have strategically considered the masters program.

I travel in and out of Thailand frequently on my DTV with legit documents and given the reputation of the university that my ED visa will be issued for, I have no problem getting questioned at immigration every time.

So what I intend to do is further my education, and get the correct visa type.

Cheers sir!

DeterminedApricot6388 there is no rule that says you can't study a university degree while on a DTV visa. Your main reason to be in Thailand could still be true that you are a remote worker and you just study a degree on the side.

DeterminedApricot6388 There is no requirement to have a ED visa by the university or immigration it is clearly optional, same goes for remote work ... A DTV doesn't grant you legal right for remote work, you can get a visa because of remote work. It's the same for ED visa, it does not grant you the legal ability to study, all you are doing is wasting your money and your time by changing it.

DeterminedApricot6388 you can go to school on any visa, even a tourist visa that you have. You do not need an ED visa to go to school, as you already have a legal visa.

DeterminedApricot6388 thank you for your helpful reply 😊

I wish you success in your studies. My Thai friend of 22 years earned the MBA from Burapha University School of Commerce 15 years ago.

A wonderful achievement. One which I had wished for over the years.

DeterminedApricot6388 but if you will continue to work remotely you need to remain on a Workation based DTV, you can't do that on an ED visa.

I canceled mine via email ( Sydney)

Mind you though they didn’t actually cancel it they just sent my visa letter again with the void stamped on it.

Every time I enter they ask what visa I want to use 🤣

Yeah I emailed them with my visa copy , passport copy ( I made sure I went through to get an exit stamp) included exit stamp, proof of my new visa , and an brief explanation of why I wanted to cancel my DTV

KnowledgeableRaccoon5198 Hi thanks for your reply! Did you email them after you have left Thailand? And how long did it take for them to “cancel” it. 😬 I’m just trying to avoid possible issues at the embassy or immigration for holding 2 types of visa at the same time. Thank you!

So you still have DTV? Interesting….is it only voided on their end but still shows as valid in Thai immigration computers

Yeah that’s correct ,

Every time I enter they ask what visa I wish to

Use.

So it kind of goes against the theory that you can’t have 2 visas at once

KnowledgeableRaccoon5198 it is the MoFA that says you can’t have two visas. They are the one they would issue the ED visa and they are saying they need to have other visa voided in their system. immigration doesn’t have access to their database
