TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for the DTV freelance visa through the Thai E-Visa system, you need to fill in your 'intended date of arrival' and 'intended date of departure'. For the arrival date, it's recommended to choose a date between 6 weeks and 3 months ahead, as most embassies won't process applications with longer gaps. Note that the DTV visa doesn't grant a full 5 years in Thailand; you receive a 180-day stamp upon entry, so your departure date should be set within 180 days of arrival.
Most embassies will not process a visa application if you say you'll be traveling more than 3 months away. So pick a date between 6 weeks from now and 3 months from now.
And DTV does not give you 5 years in Thailand. You get a 180 day stamp when you arrive. So your exit date should be within 180 days of your arrival date.
