What should I do if my flight from Thailand is cancelled or if I want to re-enter after exiting?

Dear friends, I arrived to thailand 7 January with free tourist visa and am scheduled to leave 4 April to Athens via Qatar having exhausted the 2+1 months. 1) if my flight is cancelled, do I have to find another flight to get to Greece or will I be given a visa extension. 2) If I exit Thailand and try to re-enter via air after a few days, will I be given a 2nd free tourist visa or not. Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on two key scenarios regarding their tourist stay in Thailand: 1) If their flight is cancelled, will they get an extension or need to book another flight? 2) Can they obtain a second free tourist visa upon re-entering Thailand after a brief exit? Commenters generally agree that a cancelled flight won't automatically warrant an extension, and re-entry is subject to immigration officer discretion, especially given the duration of their stay.

Go and ask Immigration, it maybe all over by then but I have my doubts.

I would personally do a border run now and stay a week or so. Come back and you'll have another 60 days to figure things out. The war is quite unpredictable now and could still be going on a year from now or be over any day. Give yourself a wide margin so it's a not a huge concern pending.

The 4th April is a long way away in terms of the war in the middle east. Anything could happen before then

If your flight is cancelled and you have proof you won't be charged overstay fees

As any extension will be down to the Thai Immigration office they are the only people who can answer so I would recommend that you go to an Immigration office and ask them and not bother getting advice online. I know I am giving advice online.

No charge for overstay if your flight is cancelled due to the problems, friend left the other day just show details of flight cancellations at immigration.

If your flight is cancelled you are still responsible for leaving Thailand before your permitted stay expires. Flight cancellations normally do not qualify for an additional extension. In practice you must arrange another flight. If necessary, immigration can issue the standard 7 day extension denied stamp, which gives you seven days to depart.

If you leave Thailand and attempt to re-enter after a few days, you may receive a new visa-exempt entry. However, entry is always at the discretion of the immigration officer. Given that your previous stay in 2025 and the current stay together approach around six months, you are already close to the upper range typically tolerated for visa-exempt tourism.

Alexandros Karsiotis If you want a safe backup plan in case something happens, you could contact the owner of this group. There is still some time before your departure, and Qatar Airways continues operating even if there are some disruptions.

can arrange a so-called safe entry for you, which would give you a new 60-day stay if it becomes necessary at that point.
