Hi everyone, can anyone help me. So I applied for a DTV visa over a month ago in the US they ended up needing more info and I thought I wasn’t going to qualify in time so was just waiting to get denied. I came to Thailand on a visa exempt for my passport and then was going to get a different visa under my son’s school because he is going to school here. However I just found out I got approved but I’m in the country now, what do I do??

TLDR : Answer Summary
After receiving approval for your DTV visa while currently in Thailand on a visa-exempt entry, the recommended course of action is to leave the country and return after presenting your DTV visa printout at passport control. This will allow you to receive a new entry stamp for six months. Avoid attempting to extend your current status at immigration, as it could incur additional costs.

Leave anytime and return anytime showing your DTV printout upon re-entry.

Fly out of the country and come back in.

Simply leaving come back. Go to the border. Take a quick flight. Up to you.

Another friend of mine had exactly this happened. Not a problem at all.

You have to leave Thailand and re enter at a border and you get 6 months stamp free, but if you don’t leave and just go for an extension at immigration it will cost you 10,000 baht be aware

no extension costs 10k, they are all 1900B and the OP can only get a 30 day extension on the 60 day exempt entry stamp

all wrong. You can't apply for an extension of DTV since you didn't enter on it. And the DTV extensions costing 10,000 was only a rumor and we know now it's the normal 1900 baht for an extension. But most immigration offices make it impossible to apply for DTV extensions so you're better off just leaving and returning every 6 months

she wouldn't be able to get an extension if she hasn't entered on the visa
Brandon ************
You print out your visa and show it to passport control after you leave and return to Thailand when your current stamp is ending.

so I should wait till my current stamp runs out?

there's no reason not to wait. You'd just be giving up time if you leave before then.
