What is the current procedure if I leave my job in Thailand with a work permit and have to get another visa? I'm not 50 until September, any suggestions? I'm not married but have Thai children here. Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you leave your job in Thailand while holding a work permit, you will need to switch to a different type of visa. Since you have Thai children, you might explore the option of applying for a visa based on being their parent, provided you have legal parental rights. This could potentially allow you to extend your stay. However, you must also ensure that you meet the financial requirements, such as having 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account in your name. Consider marriage to a Thai national as another potential visa pathway.

I'm closing comment. This was hijacked, and I honestly can't follow the comments anymore. In the future, please make your own post (even IF you think your situation is the same as the OP).

It looks likes the answers were given. If there's anything else to add, please message a mod. Thank you.

If you do get married to Thai...is a visa solution for you.

the real question IS do you have legal parental rights granted either thru family court OR by the local amphur (if the children are old enough) so you can apply for an extension based on raising half thai children AND can you meet the proof of funds required 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only?

Des Igning >How and where would this be done?

You'd do it your local immigration office and labor department.

> and what documents would need to be provided?

For what? You'd want to cancel your work permit and extension of stay based on employment using your termination documents. For the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19, you'll need:

1. Your passport and a copy of:

a. Your data page

b. Your most recent entry stamp

c. Your departure card

2. A TM30 on file

3. 2x passport pictures

4. The forms (for Bangkok, they are in this group, for other immigration offices, you'd have to go there)

5. 1,900 THB.

6. A letter from your embassy saying that you can't travel due to COVID-19, OR a screenshot from your embassy website saying they don't issue the letters.

Of course, different immigration offices may have different requirements.

, just making sure, extension and WP have to be canceled where they were issued. They may or may not be same to your local offices.

Great point! Thanks for reminding me.

Des Igning you would get letter/documents from your employer saying you are leaving your job on a specific date. You go to the immigration office where your extension was issued and cancel your extension (you may be able to apply for cancellation several days in advance). Then immediately apply for a 60days covid extension at your local immigration office. While you have to cancel your WP at the labor office where it's issued too.

I'm not the father by court but have the 400k. Sorry so late I've been off the grid.

If that's the case
@To**
without legal parental rights granted to you there no option to get a yearly extension based on raising a half thai child.

If you haven't used the 60 day visit thai family extension you could get that once OR apply for a 60 day covid extension.
Tod *********
If the answer to those questions is no AND you're doing it before March 30th (the day the ability to get a 60 day covid extension runs out) you would cancel your current extension of stay based on employment and immediately apply for a 60 day covid extension. That would give you 2 months and if you needed more time after that you could also apply for a 60 day visit thai family extension (once) as well.

@Tod ********
you could transfer visas from a Non-B to TR before March 30th?

@Aman *******
there is no "get a tourist visa" inside the country now or before covid :(

you could go OFF an extension you were on and apply for the 60 day covid extension

OR

you could get off the extension you're on and apply for a new extension for a new reason IF that type of switch is allowed.

That's the only way it could be done

@Tod ********
gotcha! But we could go from a Non-B to a covid extension for 60 days before March 30?
