I would like to ask you all about transferring money from overseas into my Thai bank account.
WISE asks for the reason so you click ( long stay in Thailand) something like that.
Western Union hasn’t got this reason. Does it matter or not.
Thank you 🙏 all

TLDR : Answer Summary
The reason provided for transferring money into a Thai bank account can impact the transaction, particularly regarding the classification as a foreign or domestic transfer. While some users suggest that it doesn't matter what reason you choose, it's recommended to select 'long stay in Thailand' when using services like WISE to ensure it routes correctly. This may be important for those on long-term visas or for future immigration purposes. It's also noted that failure to provide a reason may lead to delays in processing the transfer.
It's likely to comply with AML (anti money laundering regulation), so it doesn't really matter until someone starts digging into your transactions for some reason.

WU . Living expences

If you don’t put a reason there the Thai bank gonna hold the money for 5 days before releasing it.
It just happened to me and they told me it’s automatic and no way around it.
The reason doesn’t really matter but if you leave it blanc gonna happen like me.
It happened at bkk bank last month

When you transfer from wise it goes in as a local transaction. Unless you say the reason is to buy property. Then it goes in as an international transaction

Whether it matters or not depends on the purpose of the transfer

My Wise defaults to 'Medical Expenses'. Works every time.
Just so that you know I am not living at the moment in Thailand but Australia and that’s why I am using Western Union. Coming over there in a week. My question was should I use WU or Wise because Wise has the option of clicking ( long stay) and WU hasn’t. My concern is will it matter when the time comes for me to transfer the 400.000
if it’s a non-o based on marriage you don’t need it to show as a foreign transfer only for the 800k for a retirement but Wise is definitely the way to go
it’s information that he will need believe me who in there right mind would live here and use WU

I use wise to transfer my money into my Thai bank account( Bangkok Bank ). Use long term stay in Thailand if you want to go the 65.000 baht per month income route. The first 12 month extension you must use 800.000 baht system. But you must deposit from overseas bank account 65.000 baht per month unbroken for 12 months to use the 65.000 baht system.

Darin Leitch When I send money from my US account using wise, it doesn't give me any options to use swift or any long term stay option like you say. I sent over the money the other day and I bank with Krungsri Bank. Money showed up no problems, but under the statement it shows it transfers as Global Payment Hub. Hmmm. Went to bank today with Thai friend to ask if it's going to register as a international transfer, they said yes. Hmm, I am going to look into that a little deeper to be assured.

Sorry you only get 90 days retirement visa. Then you apply for a 12 month extension every year under the Non O visa program

After you have your 12 month extension of your 90 day non o visa two months later you can do whatever you want with the 800.000 baht but must have 65.000 baht overseas income monthly for 12 months and you can spend all of it if you wish

Darin Leitch Have not been in this situation myself, but I am quite sure you are giving out wrong information that can hurt people badly: you have to keep minimum B 400.000, (of the original B 800.000,) in the bank untill you get your next extension based on the monthly installments. The logic in this being that these are the rules for your first year extension which you have broken. Might also, if following the same logic, be a case of overstay from the moment you drop below the agreed minimum of B 400.000,. Please correct me if I’m wrong about the overstay.
for the application to the 90-days visa, you can use original income documents from your home country. But in order to use the +65,000 THB income proof for the application to the 1-year Extension of the Stay Permit based on Retirement, you must show a Thai bank statement for 12 consecutive months, month for month, unbroken every month, a minimum of 65,000 THB has been transferred onto your Thai bank account, coded as having come from abroad. (That's a given only if your embassy in Thailand doesn't issue an income affidavit)
ok but the pensionfund will charge me every month for transfer my pension overseas. I will also loose with rate or value every month. Ir is there another way?
transfer using WISE from your home country bank account into your Thai Bank account after you get your pension, it is straight forward. You get a fairly decent exchange rate with WISE.
Do it the same day or day after your Pension lands in your bank account in your home country, using the Wise App, just make sure it is a little bit more than 65,000 baht so your account will never be under for each month in your Thai bank account, slowly building a buffer in case of any unforeseen fees or such that the bank may deduct sending your deposit under 65,000.
Thank you very much. So I can open account without needing the 800K? I want to go to immigration and ask retirement visum. I go Thailand 25 of July with a tourist visum 60 days. I rent an apartment on yearly base.
the income has to be from overseas not local, you can’t work in Thailand under a retirement system and make an income. That would be a different visas. LTR or investment visa
deposit 800.000 baht for visa extension. The day you extension starts you must pay 65.000 baht into your Thai bank account per month however you can withdraw your 800.000 baht two months as long as you deposit minimum of 65.000 baht per month which you can spend freely
Depends on your visa, Immigration like to see the funds coming from OS if you have a long term visa. So tick the box.

The reason itself doesn’t matter, but if it’s for “long term stay in Thailand” Wise try to route it as an international transfer (if using Bangkok Bank) rather than a domestic transfer.
