ORIGINAL POSTERJust a heads up for anybody that has dual Thai / British Nationality. My daughter tried to renew her British Passport, the UK passport office now require a copy of any other nationality
passports you may hold. My daughters Thai passport didn't show her middle name so the UK passport office wouldn't renew her British passport until it was sorted out. If anyone has dual Thai/ British nationality make sure both passports show the same name before you try to renew the British one.

My Thai daughter, has Australian, Thai and Japanese passports. Exactly the same name, same spelling.
Renewed them all with no problems. Even issued new ones (Thai, Australia). Sydney, Australia.

yes correct the exact same name and spelling is very important. But Japan doesn’t allow dual nationality after the age of 22 years old, if you choose another Nationality you must give up your Japanese citizenship.Jim *******

Japan multy citicenship had changed in 2011. Since then, the applicant has to state their citizenships, with priority.

Surely that is just common sense, my wife has been an Australian citizen for over 30 years and we made sure both passports have exactly the same name, same with our children and grand children. I can never understand why Thai people want to change their name when they marry Farang, always makes things harder than they have to be.

Not a matter of common sense. I mean, it's totally country dependant. In Korea (my home country) many people have two passports (I mean, dual citizenship) with two different legal names, and it's never been an issue. Don't know for the UK, but for the US and other countries, having two different names associated to two different citizenships has never been an issue here.Rob **********

And you're talking about Australia, and the OP about the UK, so it's the same: different for each country, so not a matter of one "global common sense" nor "one rule for all". There will be people with both Korean and Thai citizenships, also, so what I say is relevant.Reply to

Here even is usual that the family names differ, as if the mother is Korean, the Korean family name would normally be listed first in the children's passport, while the father's family name would be listed first on the other country's passport. So, you can be Amy Lee on the Korean one and Angelica Amy Brown on the American one. It's very common here.

you can do very little at the British Embassy. To renew a British passport in Thailand you need to contact VFS. They have offices in Bangkok and Chaing Mai.As a positive VFS provide a great service.

My daughter's name is spelt differently on her British and Thai passports. I am not sure whether the last passport was her 5th or 6th but it is the first time this has ever happened. Required her original Thai birth certificate and the British birth certificate from registering of the birth at the British embassy. Transliteration causes a lot of problems.

Had the same nightmare. I had to show two different bank accounts with no middle names to match my Irish passport. They finally renewed my UK passport after a supervisor dealt with it
