My employer has told me I need to do a visa run to get a non im’ (as per pre Covid)
I’ve been reliably informed elsewhere (expert source) that my employer can apply for a non Im in country pre Work permit
Has anyone got experience with an employer dealing with this as they are insisting I do a visa run!
Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the user's situation as a teacher in Bangkok needing clarification on visa requirements. Their employer insists on a visa run to obtain a Non-Immigrant visa, contradicting information they've received suggesting that the employer can apply for this visa without leaving the country. Various commentators share experiences and opinions about the current immigration policies, the complexities of changing visa types in-country, and the challenges posed by COVID-19 regulations, indicating that there might be alternative ways to secure the Non-B visa without having to leave Thailand.
I think your employer told you to do the visa run as they don't want to pay the 20K fee to get the non B in country. Even though there was mention in the media that teachers could get work visas without leaving country🤔 its confusing. Some of my teacher friends just paid it themselves.
Ok, just confirming you’re talking about a Non Immigrant ED Visa to study in Thailand that you entered on correct?
From what I’ve discovered you can not move from an ED Visa to a Non B easily in country - even if you have the correct
amount of days left on an active stamp.
This was pre-covid, but I haven’t seen anyone successfully change over without paying a huge fee to some visa agent that makes it happen, however I don’t know how legitimate that process is.
Some of the teachers that people like Richard Barrow couldn’t successfully get new stamps were in similar situations. Stamps that can’t be changed in country for some reason.
Only some areas are doing this ... have a look on Richard Barrow he got 3 out of 4 teachers a non B without leaving country ... but many immigration offices not doing ... there is even a letter from minister of education asking immigration to process without leaving but unless relevant minister agrees most offices not complying ... I think they will
U can leave the country but not can come back so visa run not possible, and I not understand your question u say u teacher and u have workplace than I think u have workpermit allready ?
