Hello! We’re a French family of 4. My partner got his DTV Workation visa, and I just applied for Thai Soft Power DTV.

Now the question is about our 2 kids:

3 y.o. and 6 months old and due to recent changes in France, we don’t have the 3-month financial proof required for children.

We arrive Sept 3

Thinking of applying for their DTV from another country (heard Hanoi is possible?). Anyone tried? Or maybe Kuala Lumpur ? Or any other?

Thanks for any help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A French family seeks advice on applying for DTV visas for their two young children (a 3-year-old and a 6-month-old) but faces challenges due to recent financial proof requirements in France. They are considering applying from Hanoi or Kuala Lumpur and have inquired if others have successfully done so. Community members share experiences regarding embassy efficiency in Paris, tips on applying in Hanoi, and insights about financial requirements for children. The discussion touches on the necessity of visas for children, with some suggesting that it's safer to obtain visas despite transient regulations, while others discuss potential schooling options and associated visa types.

Although all aliens require proper visa status.

There in NO enforcement against children.

So if a young child is overstay there are no repercussions or issues coming and going.

However as they get to school age, the international schools may require a proper ED visa for enrollment.

So in short you can bring your children without the DTV.

Could you clarify what you mean by arriving for school? What soft power activity did you sign up for

I submit Muay Thai soft power DTV. And sorry everyone misunderstood but the school is actually the pre school for my 3y.o kid😅

for the 3 year old ask the school if a DTV is OK as some schools want kids to be on an ED visa. If they are happy get them both a DTV. I don't think you need separate funds for kids, write them a sponsor letter saying you are responsible for them and will fund their stay.

I would like to be more helpful but do you understand that you have to pay for schooling in Thailand?

School for who? You? If you don't have the financials, and no fixed income exceeding the required limits, Thailand is not the place to be. International schools can run US $30,000 per year. What happens when your kids get school aged?

pre school for my 3 years old kid thank you but I don’t want to return to school 😅 and we have income but even if one day we don’t have enough income we can just return to our country we are not kids 🤷🏻‍♀️

you're assuming waaaaay too far ahead in the future. My friend came her with his family and cheated on her every weekend. Now, they are divorced. No sane woman would bring their husband over here. They don't understand the competition. Thai girls are younger, hotter, more submissive, and way less attitude.

It starts from about 100k-150k baht per year and way up to around 900k,which is imo really expensive. It depends on type of school and location.

In the past I have found the embassy in Paris to be efficient for normal tourist visas, but got refused for my DTV with no explanation. I then flew to SGN to apply, it wasn't fast, as they were shut for public holidays during my application, but I was successfully in the end, all in all, it took ten working days. During that time, they requested extra paperwork, which reset the claimed 5-day process. As an aside, I loved my time in Ho Chi Minh City.

KL is infamous for being the strictest embassy for DTV approval. Hanoi is much more friendlier and very popular for DTV applicants. You should check the main DTV group on FB has lots of tips on applying.

Just out of curiosity. What are the financial requirements for kids??
Nongnuch ********
@Max ************
a copy of a bank statement over three months confirming a deposit of a minimum of 500,000 THB for EACH child. However, the account can be in the parent name, i.e. in the main DTV holder name . . . this one is the requirement in Malaysia

@Nongnuch *******
we have the same requirement in France

@Nongnuch *******
I get it. But just the fact that really young kids aren't exempt from financial requirements is imo bonkers.

@Max ************
Or at least not as much as an adult 😅 But that’s how it is now we just have to meet the requirements. Hope that could change for the future applicants!
Nongnuch ********
@Max ************
as far as I understand this, it can be the same bank account with the equivalent of 500,000 THB on it, which the original DTV applicant used for his visa application. So actually not any account in the children's names
