So has amyone had issues opening a thai bank account on the O 90 day visa route?
Answer summary
Opening a Thai bank account with a 90-day Non-O visa can be straightforward if you have the right documentation, including a residence certificate, TM30, and a Thai mobile number. However, experiences vary by bank and branch, with some expats encountering difficulties. It's recommended to try different branches or banks, such as Kasikorn and Krungthai, as some banks tend to be more accommodating than others. Overall, adequate preparation and persistence are necessary to successfully open an account.

Visa agents are charging an extra 2,000 baht for renewals if you bank with Bangkok Bank. Not fair
No just bring TM30 and rent contract i open in Kbank and KTB in one week do not need residence certificate and certificate about phone. Need branch to be in area where you live. May take 1 hr many documents to sign.
I personally needed a translated copy of my passport, a certificate of residence and a varified and translated other certificate specific to my type of non O visa. Massive pain to get it all and I ended up going to about 6 different banks overall. If you go to a bank and get lucky with a good staff member and tell them the specific visa it is for, they can hopefully give you the exact requirements they need, once you get them, it's only 2 or so hours in the bank and you're done. It's finding out the required documents that was so bloody tough for me to do personally.
I had issues with a Kbank branch in Chiang Mai trying to load my passport electronically their reader just wouldn't accept it.
Was told by a customer service lady on the phone I had to go to my embassy to get my passport sorted.
I went to another branch the next day and I got my account sorted which was a relief as I didn't want to go to the Australian embassy in Bangkok if I didn't have to.
*** have a Longterm visa, like a 90-days Non-Imm-O visa type, an LTR or Non-O/A
*** you need to be properly registered per TM30 Online System at your accommodation
*** visit Immigration and ask for the “certificate of residence”. Immigration in this document will ask the bank explicitly to open a bank account for the applicant.
*** have a Thai mobile number and the SIM-card registered to your name and passport number, show the receipt from the phone shop.
*** your passport as a valid document of identification.
Some banks will ask you for a second piece of valid identification, like your home country driver’s license.
*** a work permit (only if applicable – it is NOT a mandatory requirement!)
Here a list of NOT commonly needed requirements, but that can get asked from over-zealous bank staff:
*** a rental contract - actually irrelevant- but it is okay if you got one, or if you got a blue housebook indicating ownership of a condo.
*** a third (!) piece of identification (check above)
*** a mandatory life-insurance or accident insurance the bank offers you for yearly 5000 Baht (they love to earn a sidekick)
*** your foreign Tax-number or Social Security number (which would be okay so far, why not)
Try several branches of different banks, you should find one that opens an account for you under the minimal requirements. Sometimes it takes a day or two of running around until you find a bank willing to help you.
I don’t recommend Bangkok Bank. Better get a Kasikorn or Siam Commercial Bank account. Other good banks are Khrungthai and Krungsri
In case you consistently meet bank staff who resist and pull out of their noses random requirements, use the service of an agent. In Pattaya for example, you can get a Thai bank account opened within 2 days for 5000 THB.
It mainly depends on branches: some will take you, some don't want to take foreign customers. And don't tell us that Kasikorn is better or Bangkok Bank is horrible. The good bank is the one who will open a bank account for you.
Jean Pacquement I think its the same for all banks, all provinces. My account was opened in Udon. My fat nosed wife was doing the talking. My recommendation was based on experience of the App, not the people. The app and card allow me not to need people. The account works well with Wise
If you have your yellow book, pink id card, and passport with valid non-O stamp you should be good.. but that doesn’t mean you won’t have issues.. most countries you get all your paperwork together and go file for whatever you need.. in Thailand everything is a social interaction so you can have everything you need but maybe they are in a bad mood that day or maybe you didn’t give them the right vibes but for whatever reason they will send you away.. go to another bank, another branch or go back another day.
Summer Dawn you don't need a yellow housebook to get a bank account opened. A certificate of residence from Immigration will suffice. Some banks even accept a rental contract.
Everything was explained to you twice an hour ago. NO you can not open a bank account on a 60 day or any Tourist visa. If you qualify for the Non-O visa apply for it on line and after you get it come to Thailand and follow the rules to apply for your 12 month extension of stay about a month before it expires.
Dave Morris in one of your posts a visa agency answered that they can get you the non o and bank account in Thailand. That's rare, go back a read if you're still interested in that option. Bring your wallet to the conversation, that service will not be cheap, but it is an option.
It is possible to open a Thai bank account with a 90-day Non-O e-Visa, provided you have all the required supporting documentation. Some banks or branches may initially refuse, so it can be worth trying elsewhere. In practice, the decision often comes down to the individual branch and its interpretation of the bank’s requirements.
I tried Kasikorn bank in Ban Dung with all my documents, they weren’t interested, in fact the lady was a little rude, so went to the same bank in Udon Thani same documents, the account was opened in 15 minutes 🤷♂️🤷♂️
Robert Jagger I think it depends on staff experience and if they know how to open a bank account for foreigner.
In KKC one bank, I wanted to something with, a member of staff said “no”, the woman next to her said yes and then made a phone call to get instructions.
I used K-bank branch near nana station on Sukhumvit road. I needed my passport and 90 day non o visa (printed copy of the e-visa) a TM30 and a rental agreement as well as a Thai contract phone number. It wasn’t an issue at all and took about 30 minutes to sort out. Lots of signatures and they set up the banking app, I did an initial deposit of about 1000 bht and walked out with an ATM card, a bank book and an activated app. The staff all spoke good English.
did you get the residency certificate from immigration first because most banks won't allow you to open an account without one and often don't tell you what you need. Last time I opened a bank account the person in the bank said i needed a form from immigration and when I asked 'what form' they said 'ask immigration'. So they wouldn't open an account without a form so they must have know what form was needed but refused to tell me but it didn't matter because I knew what form but as I was passing the bank I though I'd try before going to immigration anyway,
You may still have to try a few different branches, even of the same bank, but with the visa, a residence certificate from immigration and a Thai SIM registered against your passport you shouldn't have a problem
