What is the TrueMoney Scan & Pay process for DTV visa holders in Thailand?

TrueMoney Scan & Pay Process for DTV Holders:

1. Register using your passport and a Thai phone number.

2. Apply to use all services—including Scan to Pay—by selecting “Verify using Non-Immigrant Visa” and uploading your DTV e-visa/stamp and Thailand entry stamp.

While you still need to withdraw cash and top up your wallet at 7-Eleven each time, it's still more convenient than using cash directly.

Takes about 2 working days for it to be approved.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The TrueMoney Scan & Pay process for DTV visa holders involves registering with a passport and Thai phone number, and selecting 'Verify using Non-Immigrant Visa' to upload necessary visa documents. Users must withdraw cash to top up their wallet at 7-Eleven, as foreign debit/credit cards are not accepted for this service. This process aims to streamline payment methods in Thailand, although some users still view cash as a more convenient option.

You are breaking the terms in the number 2:

The DTV is not a non-immigrant visa, so you are breaking the rules by stating you have a non-immigrant visa.

Do never spread illegal ways to circumvent Thai laws and rules, in this group.

nothing illegal about it, true wallet can be opened by even tourists, it has a lot of limitations though, but can be used mostly to pay at the approved vendors.

Can we ban the “cash is king” trolls?

If you want to act like a grandpa in an increasingly cashless world that’s fine but the rest of us do like the 2 second scan option without collecting worthless coins no one wants to exchange.
Felipe *********
@John *****
but then you still need cash to top it up, unless you have a bank account which most don't have.
John ******
@Felipe ********
And? Can top up 50k and be cash/coin free for your daily purchases for months. Then repeat

@Felipe ********
No maximum balance is 50k and 20k cash top ups at true terminals. It’s a per transaction limit not a daily limit
Paul *******
Cash is way more convenient. The second most convenient payment method is a credit card.

Been using Trumoney for
****
payment for a while. Can top up easily at
****
counter or via another Thai bank account. For those think cash transaction is faster, the app should be open already and you only need to press the “pay” button at top right of screen once to get into the QR code screen. This can be done in advance BEFORE your turn to pay. Common sense is lacking if you choose to open the app only at your turn and hold up the Q.

No offence meant but For those who think cash is king , I pray you do not have to travel to China 😅 cheers !

The Truemoney app refuses to work with Android developer options enabled, so no thank you.

asa developer I xan assure you, there are very good security reasons why companies won't want some apps to work with developer mode on, and it's mostly for your security.

Anyone else had problems with the 'Scan Passport' step on TrueMoney? I keep getting 'Unable to Process' immediately after scanning the passport multiple times
Dany ********
you can most likely also top up more than 3k in a TRUE shop or at a terminal
John ******
@Dany *******
yep 20k at true terminals in mrt too
Sebastian ***********
@Dany *******
I couldn’t make use of it without a Thai bank account .. I had to withdraw the cash
Adrien ****
No way to top up with a foreign debit/credit card ?

Cash is king 💰💰💰💰

Indeed. Its faster than getting out your phone, opening the app, entering a passcode, maybe trying to do a face scan and annoying everyone who's waiting behind you.

I'll do cash or credit card only for efficiency purposes. Cash is the best because it always works.

We must do more to keep the cash economy alive
Brandon ************
Anonymous participant 407 why didn't you have your phone out and open to the app already if you knew you were going to be paying? Then it's even faster than using cash. Just think ahead more than 10 seconds

@Alex ******
dummest saying ever!!!!! You know how great it is to scan a barcode when you buy your 7thb bottle of water? without having to deal with coins and change.

@David *******
In theory using the scan should be more convenient/efficient than paying with cash. However, it seems like the steps to pay with the scan make it a little less efficient due to opening the app, scanning, waiting, look at phone, show phone to vendor, wait for vendor to confirm. It takes slightly longer than just using cash, but the timing in this context makes a difference. It’s not quick like Apple Pay or Tap pay like in the U.S. but maybe it’ll improve over time.
David ********
@Jon *****
yeah I like Apple Pay too. For the time, you can pull up the qr code while you shop. It lasts 15m until expiry
John *********
@Da***
do you know how great it is to not have all your purchases recorded?

Cash always works. No busy network. No battery or service issues.

You’re wrong, but different strokes for different folks.
John ******
@John ********
Huh? Your money trail here is recorded anyway. Bank transfer or atm. Who cares if they know you bought an XS condom at
****
?
John *********
@Jo**
it’s not about my extra small condoms. It’s ALL of the transactions.

Rent and internet paid by bank transfer.

Everything else is cash. It’s fast, anonymous, and not traceable.

Privacy isn’t about hiding illicit transactions. I don’t have any purchases that would flag me or set off alarm bells.
John ******
@John ********
Actually cash has something called serial numbers. It’s very traceable. Irony of supporting government issued toilet paper that devalues your earnings/savings in the name of freedom and privacy lol
John *********
The serial numbers are attached to the bill, not to me. I do plenty of debit/credit purchases in the US, but in Thailand I prefer cash.

The govt issued fiat currency works exactly as it should.

Are you paying for everything with Crypto on a phone you only turn on to make transactions that’s in the name of a dead Ukrainian women?

I think not.

You’re the joke until you can explain otherwise.

A good day to you sir.
Felipe *********
As a side note, if you have a gf/bf you can wise them to their thai bank and they can transfer to true wallet, not sure what the limit is but it's surely more than 3k.
David ********
@Felipe ********
30k for thai local, per month
Wayne *********
I can also top up using a Thai bank account
