What is the process for extending a DTV visa in Thailand, and how does it relate to bank accounts?

Just an update on in country extension and Bangkok bank :-

Went to immigration with orginal documents (workation)

Self certed letter of employment

Company registration docs (uk)

Business description

Residence certificate

Copy of dtv visa

Copy of passport

Had photo taken there

didn’t need any bank statements just asked for bank account certificate of funds which i didn’t have

Went off to a Bangkok bank not my normal branch.. they said as I had recently transferred money across they will lock 400k for four months due to internal policy.. shows in total balance but deducted for available balance.

No mention of issues with dtv visa etc although they took photo copies of passport pages and I had to sign several documents..

Back to immigration, 90 day report done, extended with a new 180 day stamp in an out in 30 mins

Bizarre that they are selective with which DTV accounts they close 🤔

I did an extension on my DTV on 30 June 25. In order to obtain the bank balance confirmation letter and certified past months bank statements on the day of application for extension, 500K THB was required to be frozen for 4 months. Moving forward to now, my bank account was locked like many other foreigners and subsequently was informed by the bank branch which I opened the account at that it has been closed off due the ineligibility of my visa type but I can only close off the account and withdraw my money after the end of the 4 months period. I hope your account won't be subjected to the same fate as mine.

can I ask did you open your own account or did an agent do it? It’s not ideal like.. all the uncertainty

Anonymous participant Via an agent. The ongoing closure of account in my opinion is purely on the basis of the eligibility to hold on an account based on visa type (non immigrant visas) or other circumstances like having a Thai spouse or owning a condo in Thailand.

yeh there seems to be no consistency though.. guess time will tell.. I was a little anxious at poking the bear going into a different branch yesterday, especially when they were scanning my passport pages (all of them) but so far no problems.. 🤞

Anonymous participant I hope your account will be fine!

no nothing from immigration other than just a statement certificate showing funds over 500k not even bank statements,

The bank cashier seemed to be confused by this though as my partner tried to explain and they just advised they would lock 400k for four months as I’m meant to have it in before hand..

I think maybe they were thinking someone such as an agent may have transferred it to me and I was going to transfer back, tried to explain it was sent from my uk bank account. Didn’t mind them locking it for 4 months as it’s savings regardless.

Just sped up the process In the bank to get the certificate

Anonymous participant Seems a smoother process than other offices to get an extension.

Anonymous participant Good relations help a lot too, nice set up you got

Yep bizarre how they can just pick and choose who to close and keep open. Stay consistent. Close them all or keep them open. Only in Thailand !!!

So on DTV you can have a bank account and do extension inside Thailand; all that drama from people who cannot handle things properly

Anonymous participant Ok, Bank Managers do have discretion on keeping accounts open so some DTVERS can keep accounts open. Where did you do your extension?
