TLDR : Answer Summary
The statute of limitations pertains to how long legal action can be taken against someone, not how long criminal records remain accessible. Criminal histories typically remain on record indefinitely unless expunged. The relevance of past convictions for visa applications depends on the visa type, with few requiring a background check. It's vital to consult specific requirements as they may vary.

Yes don't come here. We got enough farangs hiding out here from their past crimes in their country.
Try ACRO website for UK - May give you a guide - gives pdf explaining when certain crimes fall off reporting - I believe this is the site that produces the document foreign governments require for certain roles / visa’s

You are confused. The statute of limitations only refers to the length of time legal action can be taken against you, not how long your criminal history stays on your record. Your criminal history stays on your record indefinitely unless you actually take steps to have it expunged, which some countries allow in certain situations. If you had criminal convictions on your record from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, they are always on your public record unless you work to have them removed, or the records sealed. They never automatically go away after a certain time period.

70s 80s and 90s. Damn so you were in the streets for 3 generations of gangsterdom haha…do you need it for a job ? If they are conducting the background check themselves they will probably find whatever you did. If you are tasked with getting your own background check or letter from your foreign police department and showing them the results then basically its whatever you decide to turn in to them

What did you do in Thailand between 1970 and 1990?
yeah but my hunch is that someone who was committing crimes in the 70s probably isn't looking for a job in Thailand since they probably were already 18 at that point. Even 1979 is 44 years ago, +18 is 62 years old.
I was merely pointing out that it might be a job as he didnt mention visa and it might matter to him.

Probably depends on what the sentence, and what kind of visa you're going for.
When I got the teaching job I have now, I was required by my school to get an International Child Protection Certificate from my home country (UK), which as the name suggests entails a thorough background check for any convictions or allegations made against you ever, when it comes to children.
However, the IPCC requirement was particular to my school, I think, and I believe for most schools the legally required process for getting the visa is that the authorities contact your home authorities and ask for a basic check. Don't think there will be any Stat of Limitations on the serious stuff for that visa though.

Think it depends on the sentence
