We applied for the DTV in Ho Chi Minh City, and it was approved in just 17 hours. It really depends on luck.

My DTV was approved in London in 7 working days (so not counting Sat & Sun) and my husband’s was approved in 10 working days once he submitted his spousal DTV application.

No interview required - I am an employee with employer approval letter so fairly straightforward case though.

UK took me two days. Oversupply the information required and there was no request for more documents, visa appointments etc etc. two day turn around from application to approval. Heard lots similar under a week from London.

Home country, so you have time to arrange travel plans and say goodbye to friends and family.
But if you like a short vacation before working in Thailand, both Indonesia and Vietnam are nice for sight seeing. Not sure if you need a visa to visit these countries as anonymous.

USA generally within 10 business days. LA has been very fast recently approving some in 2-4 days,
