UK took me two days. Oversupply the information required and there was no request for more documents, visa appointments etc etc. two day turn around from application to approval. Heard lots similar under a week from London.

Home country, so you have time to arrange travel plans and say goodbye to friends and family.
But if you like a short vacation before working in Thailand, both Indonesia and Vietnam are nice for sight seeing. Not sure if you need a visa to visit these countries as anonymous.
