2. If your spouse is younger how does that work?
Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The time to obtain an OA 1-year retirement visa from the Washington DC embassy can vary, but many report successful completions within 10 days if all documents are in order. Additionally, if your spouse is younger than the required age, they can obtain a 90-day single entry NON-O visa, which can later be extended based on the marriage to you, who holds the long-stay visa.

I would plan 4-6 weeks.. spouse MUST HAVE own monies in a separate account, if using your insurance in the US make sure form is signed at all 3 signatures, it only has signed by 1 space.. Good luck...

IF you are married and you will get the O-A but your spouse is not old enough (not over 50) they apply for a 90 day single entry Non-O visa <- note there is no A after the O like for the O-A Longstay visa) and when you come in you'll get stamped in for a year (or how ever long your insurance is valid for) and your spouse will get stamped in for 90 days. THEN once they have about a month left on that 90 day stamp you go to the immigration office and apply for an extension of stay based on them being married to a person holding a long stay visa and they'll get a stamp that matches your expiration date

All the visa applications are done online now for the thai consulates in the US that issue them (Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, & Washington DC) once you have your documents submitted they'll tell you when you mail in your passport to get the visa put in and mail it back to you
I have seen people get completely thru the process in under 10 days IF you have your shit together and submit all the documents they require.

You don't get retirement visa (it doesn't exist) you can get retirement extension once in Thailand .
Who cares about the age of spouse , as long as she is not under 16 or 18 🤣
They are talking about applying for a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O-A (Long Stay) visa from the thai consulate in their country before they come here (commonly called a retirement visa). AND their spouse if under 50 would have to get a regular Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on being married to someone who is on a long stay visa
