TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a COVID-19 visa extension in Thailand, confirm the exact expiration date of your current visa, as it may differ from what's indicated on the sticker. Required documents typically include your passport, copies of relevant pages and stamps, a TM30 form (if necessary), specific immigration forms, a letter from your embassy (if applicable), two passport photos, and a fee of 1,900 THB. If you are on a one-year employment-based extension, you must officially cancel your current extension and work permit before applying for the COVID-19 extension. This process must be completed before November 8th.

If you are on 1-year extension based on employment, you NEED to cancel your current extension officially to be able to apply for Covid extension. Doesn't matter if your extension is expiring or not. You need a letter from your employer stating that you stop working on xx date, cancel your work permit, cancel your current extension, then you can apply for Covid extension. You need to do it on or before 8th Nov.

You need to go to the immigration office where your current extension based on employment was issued to cancel your current extension.

You need to go to the immigration office where your residence is registered to apply for Covid extension.

1. CHECK and confirm when your "visa" actually expires. IF you entered on a 60 day tourist visa, the time you're allowed in is NOT on the visa sticker, but on the "admitted to" stamp. You *MAY* be on overstay. The fine is 500THB a day.

Most immigration offices require the following for the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19

1. Your passport and:

a. a copy of your data ("picture") page

b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)

c. a copy of your most recent stamp

d. a copy of your departure card

2. [MAY BE asked at Bangkok Immigration] A TM30, filed in the immigration office.

3. The forms (each immigration office may have different forms, and want to use their special forms). For Bangkok Immigration, the forms are found in the Files section of the group.

4. [NOT required for Bangkok Immigration] A letter from your embassy saying you can not return, OR a print out from your embassy website saying they don’t issue the letters, OR a print out of a letter from the embassy saying they don't issue those letters.

5. 2x passport pictures

6. 1,900 THB.

If you go on the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19, you will not be able to work or hold a work permit. You *MAY* have to leave Thailand because some immigration offices do not allow a person to go from this extension of stay to a one year extension of stay based on employment.

Talk to the immigration office. There are a lot of problems going from a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 to an in-country Non-B problem.

Did you already take your 30 day extension of stay based on tourism yet?
