TLDR : Answer Summary
The post seeks experiences related to obtaining a 90-day Non-O visa specifically for retirees in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Comments indicate that the Sri Lankan consulate does not offer a retirement option under Non-O visas, and suggest alternatives for obtaining a visa directly in Thailand if time allows.

The consulate in Sri Lanka doesn't even show a Non-O visa available for being over 50 (retirement) as a choice :/

Depending on where you are in the country and If you have time left on your current stamp you can get a 90 day Non O visa inside the country at the immigration office for 2000baht. Where are you in thailand.

, Unless Chiang Mai does it differently only of you has to meet the financial requirements and the other can 'piggyback' onto their extension based on being married to a foreigner here that is on a long term extension.

One applies for the Non-O based on being over 50 and by meeting the financial requirements and the other applies for the Non-O based on being married to someone who is going to get a long term extension here.

The one that meets the requirements WILL need the 800K baht in a thai bank account in their name only first for the Non-O visa (where the funds don't need to be seasoned) and then once again for the year extension (where the funds need to be seasoned for 60 days before you apply)

Tod Daniels Thank you for your invaluable advise and we will act on it on Monday. Lived in Asia for quite a few years, first time in CM/Thailand and must be getting old in the brain as we are struggling to get to grips with what we need to do for our retirement visa. Our funds are in various $ accounts here under joint names, so from what I understand from your comment is that we don't need to provide a 2 month record of funds in accounts under each of our names for the 90 day visa, is that correct?

If you have your wits about you and don't dawdle you should be able to pull off getting the 90 days Non-O visas and the year extensions along with re-entry permits before you leave the country in Sept. :)

@Chri*****
I would say go to the CM immigration office make an appointment for you two to apply for in country 90 day Non-O visas, CM needs you to have 21 days on your current stamp to pull it off). Then you go back on that date apply and get your new Non-O visa and 90 day stamp inked into your passport. Then when you have 45 days or less left on that you go back and apply for a yearly extension of stay based on being over 50.

You'll have to meet the financial requirements twice. Once when you apply for the Non-O visas and once when you apply for the yearly extension. However ONLY the yearly extension funds require the 'seasoning' in the accounts for 60 days before you apply for the extension. When you apply for the 90 day Non-O the money doesn't need to be seasoned.

CM. We have flights to SL for a hol on 1st Sept. Our plan was HCM 90 days on a tourist visa which didn't happen and then SL. We now have a 30 day since yesterday and even with a 30 day extension it does not take us to 1st Sept and flights are expensive at the moment. Funds are in joint accounts which we now need to address for visas. What would you recommend Tod?
