Just did my 12 months multi-entry Non-O in HCMC.

Drop off yesterday morning: consulate opens at 8:30am. I arrived at 8:20am, only 3 people in the queue before me. Doors opened more or less on time, out less than 10 minutes later. Staff friendly and efficient.

Needed documents as per website:

* Passport with more than 6 months validity

* copy of the marriage certificate (I brought both the fancy one and the actual one with the signatures of the witnesses, as well as originals in case they want to see them, but they only gave them the most cursory of glances)

* signed copy of my wife’s ID card (front and back on one sheet)

* signed copy of her Tabien Baan (first page and her details page on one sheet)

* letter by wife asking to grant me a visa

* application form (printed from website beforehand)

* 1 recent passport photo (45x35mm)

* 200 USD (no VND or THB accepted)

Pickup today: doors open at 1:30pm. Arrived around 2pm, 4 people before me. All done within 10 minutes.

Thankyou - and congratulations Michael - I will shortly be following in your footsteps. There were no requests for bank accounts or proof of income? AND - any tips about being a tourist there ? (I’ve booked a hotel in District 1 near the river already).

The thai consulate in HCMC does NOT require any proof of funds to get a Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai.

As far as where to stay, what to do in HCMC, I'd say post on a group for that city.

This is the thai VISA advice group. ;)

As Tod said, there’s no land border, but for completeness’ sake: flew into DMK, used the Thai queue since my wife travelled with me.

Prices vary by consulate, HCMC is USD200. It's all on the website:

3. VISA FEE / LỆ PHÍ (accept in USD only/chỉ nhận USD)

80 USD for Single Entry Visa / 80USD cho loại nhập cảnh 1 lần

200 USD for Multiple Entry Visa (for spouse of Thai nationals only) / 200USD cho loại nhập cảnh nhiều lần
