TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on applying for a visa to stay in Thailand for 5 or 6 months during the winter months. The conversation highlights options such as the Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV), which allows multiple entries for up to 6 months with 60-day stays per entry, extendable by 30 days. Another alternative discussed is the Non-O visa or Non-OA visa, which can offer longer stays but may have stricter requirements, especially regarding income verification and funds in a Thai bank account. Users share their experiences with visa runs and emphasize the importance of understanding the current immigration rules.

5 months or 6 months….

you get the 60 days on entry then apply for extension of 30 days, 5 days before your 60 days time is up…. Then leave Thailand do a board run!

Make sure it’s only the one boarder run , another 60 days granted, possible try for another 30 days , as they are getting strick now!

Good luck 👍

Ann_Bisson132 they are getting stricter so taking the extension on the first entry to get 5 months stay is not a good idea but necessary for 6 months by this route

Graham Seal agree we did a board run was away for 4 days, and had paperwork to prove we were in the process of obtaining our visa, was stopped last year in May 2025, it was our 1st time doing that, questioned showed evidence of visa application etc, we were allowed back in , luckily the visa was granted in Mid June 2025, our application was put in Feb. 2025

There is no visa that gives you 6 months uninterrupted inside Thailand. There's the Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) that is valid for 6 months and on every entry during it's validity you get stamped in for 60 days at a time. Each entry can also be extended by 30 days at the immigration office that serves the location where you stay. It might also be worth looking at the Non-OA visa which is also Multiple Entry but gets you stamped in for 12 months, it does however require insurance, police checks etc

A simple option is to apply for a six months multiple-entry tourist visa, but that requires you to leave Thailand once and do a border bounce for a
***
months stay.

You could also apply for a Non O and then an extension if you hold a pension and meet the income requirement. However, as I understand it, the Swedish embassy may soon no longer issue income affidavits, in which case you would need to meet the requirement through funds held in a Thai bank account.

Jan Kenneth Nesland do you know more about that?

Because i had a non o family last year with income. This february i tried to do the same thing with income and they didnt accept it. They wanted funds in bank.

Even the visa agency in sweden was confused and didnt understand why they wanted the 400k

To be clear i make alot more than the 40k montly requirement.

John Holmberg Are you referring to applying for a new 90 days Non O based on marriage through the Thai embassy in Stockholm or a one year extension of stay based on marriage at the immigration in Thailand?
