You can apply for a spouse visa you just need to meet the requirements. You're welcome to pm me if you have more questions. I did it myself without an agent or immigration lawyer. First two visits on a visitor visa then a spouse visa.

Have a look at this free online community. There is plenty of great advice and many people going the same process as yourself.

my comment refers to a forum related to a variety of issues for Thai/UK couples such as visa applications, life in the UK test, financial requirements and so on. It has nothing to do with an agent site, also I'd never recommend using an agent.

Are Thais still required to take an English test. Even though you are married is there a big age difference between you both?

@Christopher ************
will be required to take A1 test, at their expense, and medical examination, at their expense. After 2.5 years, go through it all again, except the medical exam.

indeed I'm 71 yrs of I wanted to bring my Thai wife here it's impossible because pensions don't even get close to the

p.a to support her unless your mega rich, so it's a kind of discrimination on our citizens part I think because it doesn't include everyone.

Previously, the £18k was based on the threshold for a typical couple before they could access benefits. There was a certain rationality to that, ie the government didn't care about your standard of living, just as long as you couldn't access benefits. Now, its likely to increase, over a period, to £38k, a number based on the median salary of a skilled worker. Suddenly the government wants you to live comfortably. The numbskulls didn't even think about pensioners chasing their red wall votes. Or maybe they did. Its not kind of, but completely discriminatory. ECHR Article 8 "right to family life" means a government has no right to interfere in normal family relationships. Except the government does. Interestingly, in Canada, its an absolute right for a spouses to remain together.

Yes, you just need to be destitute, desperate and fear for your life. So much easier than going to an embassy and getting a visa.

perhaps you could enlighten us with just what are the legal routes into the uk ?

It’s a crazy situation back home when it comes to someone who is struggling to get his wife to the U.K. but there are literally thousands of illegal migrants there.

I’m not political in the slightest but it’s one of the reasons I chose to come work and live here in Thailand

@Neil ********
can you back up your claim with actual uk legal and illegal migration figures please? And not to confuse those figures with legitimate asylum seekers.

2001? Lol

@Eddie *****
according to the office of national statistics in 2001 there were 430,000. That ok for you

however writing off the whole country for one issue seems a bit much to me. There's a reason many want to come. It is a better place to live.

But I do agree that the naiveness on immigrations in western countries, and the endless rights they get, is reaching unacceptable levels. If these people are refused if they show up at some plane, or just at the border, for obvious reasons, then why flip it all around if they come by sinking boat. If we in all our wisdom determine that they deserve those rights after being 'rescued' from a sinking boat, then why not fly the entire African population to Europe by plane? Then at least they don't drown. We must find ways to give people who almost drown the same rights as those who just knock on the door. And if these rights say they can't come, then it should be the same if they come by a sinking boat.
