Medical soft power? I want to head to Thailand for medical reasons, but since you have to apply from your home country (Canada) I was curious what path to take.

I haven't been in Thailand but heard it's 2nd best for treatments for my condition so I am interested in applying for DTV from Canada asap. However, I have nothing scheduled yet and I would probably have to get consultation first, so being the treatment is in Bumrungrad International Hospital can I apply for DTV using a consult appointment or does it have to be a full blown 6 month treatment plan.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The initial query inquired about applying for a Non-Immigrant D Visa for Medical Purposes (DTV) from Canada, specifically whether a consultation appointment at Bumrungrad International Hospital would suffice or if a detailed treatment plan was necessary. The responses suggested that documentation of a complete treatment plan is typically required, though some individuals shared their experiences of successfully applying with just consultation appointments and payment receipts. Additionally, one commenter pointed out the option of entering Thailand on a visa-exempt basis for consultations before applying for the DTV elsewhere.

No treatment plan. Just appointments booked, also had a consultation via zoom and a paid receipt. Clinic gave an official stamp like seal. Approved Jakarta within 4 working days.

i got my dtv medical at thai emb dc with a checkup package appointment letter from bnh. not just a receipt but a fully signed & dated pdf letter. no further explanation needed, though i had prepared a “dear colleague“ explanation letter from my m.d. bnh checkup went well. i have some ongoing ortho issues and may use bnh for future treatments on my return to bkk but under no obligation to do so.

You don't have to get the DTV from your home country so you could consider coming to Thailand using a visa exempt entry to get a consultation and treatment plan at the hospital you want to use then travelling to a nearby country to apply for the DTV

I still remember the days when Canada had a good medical system

You need documentation of a complete treatment plan from your doctor, not just an initial appointment. Has your current doctor consulted with a doctor at Bumrungrad hospital yet?

@Kool ******
not really, I never had a treatment plan. I only submitted a letter from my doctor in bangkok stating, I am a patient of hers and that hospital. It was on official hospital letterhead

Simply being a patient doesn't imply you need to stay here to be treated long term.

well I wasn't asked for any additional documents and was approved within 5 days. I know of many others did the same thing, so you do you. 😊
