This may be an ignorant Q. I apply in Thailand for an extension for a year on a TM7 form. What is the name of this visa (retirement? long stay?) and does it need health insurance?

TLDR : Answer Summary
This discussion revolves around extending a temporary stay in Thailand using the TM7 form. The visa types mentioned include the Non-Immigrant Type O and O-A visas. The O-A visa must be obtained prior to entering Thailand and requires mandatory health insurance, whereas the O visa does not have this insurance requirement for extensions.

a Non-Immigrant Type O-A visa has to be gotten in your country BEFORE you come here. You apply at a thai consulate, with a police background check, a medical certificate, you show proof of funds in your country and (since Oct 31st 2019) you meet the mandatory insurance requirement to get that visa.

It's good for a year from the date they issue it, it is unlimited entry and every entry gets you stamped in for a whole year while the visa is valid.

Meaning IF you exit/re-entry just before the visa itself expires you get stamped in for a whole new year (giving you two years of stay out of a visa that's valid for a year). Then you either go back to your country and buy a NEW Non-O-A visa, OR you apply for a yearly extension (just like you've done on your Non-O visa every year) and the only difference in the in country extensions between the two is that O-A visa extensions require the mandatory insurance while O visa extensions do not. They both have the same financial requirements to get the year extensions

Great news Is that because of the
*****
0 baht on application?

@Peter ********
nope, it's because extensions on non-O visas don't require insurance BUT extensions from non-O-A visas do. They both require the same financial requirements for extensions. 800K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for the extension.

Or you converted into a visa at Immigration

@Peter ********
That is an stamp named Extension of Stay permitted up to .././..

When you first came into Thailand you could have used a visa you bought from the Embassy,
Robert *******
Type of Visa and Category are mentioned on that visa

You apply for an Extension of your temporary stay in the Kingdom, but the basis to do this is the last used visa in your passport.

Type of Visa and Category are mentioned on that visa
