Hi. Wondering if you can clarify different processes for getting Non Imm O for Retirement or a Non Imm O-A for retirement. Why would someone apply for an O-A when it requires Health Insurance (Thai Insurers 80k - 100k + depending on age)?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Non-Immigrant O visa offers 90 days of stay, requiring a one-year extension at Immigration, while the Non-Immigrant O-A visa provides a one-year stay from the start. The O-A visa requires health insurance but allows funds in foreign banks to count towards financial eligibility, appealing to retirees who prefer to keep their money outside Thailand.

Requirements are different for each process. Prioritizations are different for each people.

For example - these people understand the requirements of other options and they are happy with their current (or near future) status.

- One friend of mine got Non-OA after introducing an insurance requirement. For her, it's more important where she can keep her money and it's not in Thailand. She also has good insurance from years ago. For her, process of Non-OA is also much easier than applying for an extension by multiple traveling to the immigration office.

- One friend is now looking to get Elite rather than those Non-O or Non-OA route for his retirement. For him, Elite is much more easier and beneficial than applying at the Immigration office (yearly errand to apply) or getting at the Consulate.

- One is on extension from Non-O since he doesn't plan to travel often.

Many of us arrived on O-A visas before the health insurance requirement. In any case, you can meet the O-A financial requirements using money in banks outside Thailand. That feature is appealing to many people.

Yes. I've learned that there are quite a few retires that live in Thailand part time. There are so many individual circumstances.

. I recommended the O-A before the Health Insurance, for the very reason you mention above, for those that maintained a home in their Country and spent the Winter Season in Thailand.

Non Immigrant O-A visa can only be obtained in a country where you have residency and you get 1 year on entry as long as the visa is valid, that means you can get almost 2 years of stay out of this visa.

The Non Immigrant O visa is at the moment only available as Single Entry Visa, gives you 90 days of stay and then you have to apply for a 1 year Extension of Stay at Immigration, where you have to show that you bring money inside Thailand to support your retired life.

ok thanks Robert but with non imm O don’t you get 90 days stay and then during that 90 day period you can get a 12 month extension at Immigration Office within

Thailand? And then also get ongoing 12 month extensions each year providing you meet requirements eg funds in bank?
