TLDR : Answer Summary
The user initially applied for a Muay Thai visa but received a Multi-Entry Tourist Visa (METV) instead. Other commenters noted that this has happened to several individuals, particularly when applying for the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) through certain locations. The METV allows for multiple entries with up to 60 days each and can be extended, but users are advised to use it until it expires before applying for the desired DTV.

I closed the commenting on this because there are several reports of people applying for DTV through Jakarta who were issued 6-month METVs instead.

I know of three cases where this happened so far..

There's not much that can be done really, you can't apply for a new visa while you hold a valid multiple entry visa,

so you'll have to use this current visa and then go apply for a DTV after it runs out (after July 6, 2026)

This is see happened to so many people these two weeks

I applied for a legit DTV visa with all my requirements sent. And they approved me on a METV visa. I tried contacting the embassy to ask the reason, but they said it is at the discretion of the consul

. Nothing more..

That's definitely a 6 month METV (Multi-Entry Tourist Visa).. That visa gives unlimited entries of 60 days each for the validity of the visa (6 months from the date it's issued). Each entry can be extended once for 30 days.. If you plan the bounces out/back correctly you can get almost 8-9 months of stay out of the visa (w/extensions)

What did you apply for? A DTV (Destination Thailand Visa) based on 'soft power' by being enrolled in a Muay Thai School, or did you apply for an ED visa based on it?

Not much you can do now, you can't even get a new visa ๐Ÿ˜• You can't have two valid visas to thailand and this one is good for the next 6 months. I'd say use this visa as long as you can, then go re-apply for the visa you were really wanting.
