I am a US citizen and I am set to depart Bangkok back to return back to Washington DC via Japan on JAL next week. I understand that I need to provide a RT-PCR test that is under 72 hours old. Is this still true or have the exit requirements changed?

TLDR : Answer Summary
As a US citizen departing Bangkok for Washington DC via Japan, the requirements for COVID-19 testing have changed. Currently, the USA only requires a Rapid Antigen Test (ATK), which must be taken within 24 hours prior to departure. However, some airlines, like Japan Airlines (JAL), might have specific requirements, so it is advisable to check with the airline for the latest updates. It seems that a RT-PCR test is no longer necessary unless specified by the airline or health regulations at the destination.

Check again your Airline, for latest update of swab test. Last jan.22, JAL need 48 hrs before departure result of Rt PcR test..not antigen..

Many didnt make it to board because they knew 72 hrs..i hope there are good changes now.

USA only requires an Antigen test to enter the country and it can’t be an older than 24 hours before boarding the 1st flight back.
Gary ******
JAL only requires it because the USA requires it. They’re just complying with the rules for flying into America.

it looks like the Embassay site says the same thing and it was updated on Feb 4th.

No older than 24 hours before you board your first flight in Bangkok. I did a rapid test and wanted a letter from the lab to take with me..not just a picture of my rapid strip test. I wanted something more definitive. I took the test at 2pm the day before and flew out at 7:10am on ANA.

When I got to Tokyo, United checked my test again.

I stayed at the Le Meridian Bangkok hotel and they made the appointment for me at the BNH hospital. If your staying in BKK before you fly out ask your hotel to make you an appointment somewhere. They can do it. I’ve read there is someplace in BKK that is only 700 baht..I paid 4000 because they sent my rapid test to a lab which took 2 hours for the results.. and it was that price because I wanted a letter from the hospital and not just a picture of a rapid 15 min test stick.

It is one calendar day before departure. If your departing shortly after midnight for example it would be 24 hours only

it’s either rapid antigen test or PCR one day before. Not 24 hours

think 1day is 24 hours

yes a day consists of 24 hours, butthe US rules are quite specific on this it’s the day before you fly.

You should check out the US state department site. I could have sword the testing requirements were changed about a month ago to 48 hours before your first flight.

There is no exit requirement, it depends upon country you are going to and airline.

Someone should be able to advise I believe its only an ATK (anti gen, art) test required for the states
Michael *******
USA only requires ATK. Can get it done the day before flight for 500bt.
