Best way to get to Vientiane from Udon Thani airport?
Is there a bus from Udon Thani airport direct to Vientiane? Or will it stop at the border and have to get another bus?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Travelers looking to get from Udon Thani Airport to Vientiane should expect to stop at the border for immigration clearance. There is no direct bus from the airport to Vientiane; however, various transportation options are available. Likely choices include taxis, minibuses, and vans. Upon reaching the border, travelers can use local transport to continue to Vientiane. It's recommended to have a Lao visa in advance if necessary. Services like Nok Air previously offered shuttles, but alternatives include using local bus stations in Udon Thani for direct connections to Vientiane.

When you get to Udon airport, there's a desk that says 'Limousine Service' or something of that nature. You can get a 200 baht minibus ticket there. They'll tell you when it goes. It'll drop you off at the entrance to the border. Then there's a 30 baht or so bus that takes you over the bridge to the Laos side. On the Laos side, you're looking at a taxi to Vientiane for about 2-300 baht. Tuk Tuks might be a bit less. Some people like to try and share the taxi fair for about 100 each.

Take the train. The ticket is only about 50 baht to the border. Then take the bus across the border bridge.

There’s a van service called Udon Kaew which runs regularly between Udon Thani airport and Nong Khai from where you can cross the Lao border.

Nok air at one point had a shuttle from the udon thani airport to the center in Vientiane and yes it stops at the border and you reboard the bus after you clear immigration. You can book in I believe on nok air website

What you’re trying to do which is likely a visa run has been done a lot before throughout the years by other people. There’s a whole commercial industry that revolves around it.
The moment you get to the Udon Thani airport there’s services that are specifically oriented towards getting you to Laos from taxis, buses to mini vans. It’s not a problem. Just show up to the airport, and pick whatever works best for you. You don’t need to book anything in advance.

I think there is no direct bus to Vientane or Laos border from airport UD. Just cabs... But if you take transport to the center (15 - 25 min/150-200 B or maybe Grab) you have 2 options. Busstation (close to Central SM): direct bus to Vientane. Keep in mind you need a Lao visa in advance. Mini van bus station (next to Central SM): minivan to the border of Laos 55 Baht. From the border you can take a bus or taxi to Vientane.

Lot's of minivans, taxi's, rot-daeng and even motorbikes doing the trip to and from the airport <> border.
After crossing the border you have the same options on the Lao side to get into town.
It's been a while but it's not more than a few 100thb. A rot-daeng (shared ride) is the cheapest option if you're on a tight budget but then you can't be in a hurry. Don't forget to check the border opening times. They (used to) close at night.

You're going to have to stop at the border and go through immigration of course.
