hey guys! I'm 5 months into my DTV and staying in Hua Hin with my wife and 2 kids (also on DTV via me)

I need to do a border run in a month and right now we aren't feeling like taking a holiday in a nearby country like I originally planned. does anyone know the best / quickest way to just re-enter? I hear the renewal process is very tedious and not worth it?

I think the ranong crossing into Myanmar is the closest? also is there any kind of fee to pay to cross or come back? I know there is all these border run services that are asking for 5k+ per person, wondering if that's because they are doing something extra for the 30/60 day that we don't need? thank you, Thailand is amazing!!! love from an Aussie family in Thailand.

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat family in Hua Hin on a DTV visa is looking for the quickest and most cost-effective way to do a border run without wanting to take a holiday. They inquire about crossing into Myanmar at Ranong and seek advice on potential fees involved and alternatives to using border run services that charge higher fees.

Did you extend another 180 days at local immigration already?

Ranong is closest for you. Re the fees, if you travel yourself the fee at the pier is around thb1700/person, but not sure if they will ask extra due to the DTV.

The border run to Ranong is the quickest. We used this agent in Hua Hin. We had a minivan with fruit and drinks, coffee stop, the border crossing and a nice lunch at a restaurant. Cost 5000 baht each. The kids (5,7) had great time

You could consider to rent a car, hop the border and get back. That'd be the cheapest option in your case

Many car rental companies don't allow you to take their cars across the border, because of insurance issues.

not too worried about price, it's more about the comfortable route since I got 2 kids under 10 and a 6 hour car ride each way isn't appealing!

also our first time so we aren't so comfortable with the process!
