Best way or visa to stay in Thailand for say a few years. 64 finished work will be self funded
Answer summary
If you're looking to stay in Thailand for a few years as a self-funded retiree, the LTR-WP visa may be the best option, allowing a 5-year stay with the potential for a free 5-year extension, provided you meet certain financial criteria. Alternatively, you can explore the Non-O retirement visa, which is available for individuals over 50 and can be renewed annually, requiring a minimum of 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account for the extension. For the best outcomes and to navigate the requirements, consulting with a visa agent is highly recommended.

Retirement Visa would be my answer. But absolutely positively get the services of a Visa agent involved so they can review your options. Set up a consultation so that a course of action can be laid out. And you'll be well prepared without having to figure out the latest rules and regulations. Outsourcing such tasks to the experts that do this every day is just smart business.

Retirement visa. Best is LTR Wealthy Pensioner if you qualify. 10 years. Regular Retirement visas have to be renewed every year

The "best" visa for this would be the LTR-WP. It gives you 5 years at once. With the option for a free extension of another 5 years if you prove you still meet the requirements.

If you don't meet the requirements (passive income, etc..) you can choose one of the other "retirement visas". The most common being non-O based on over 50 years of age, for which you can get yearly extensions in Thailand as long as you meet the requirements which are less high than the LTR-WP visa.

Chris Evans The requirements are high, but it is not thàt expensive. Those are 2 different things.

The visa costs

baht. If you stay the full 10 years (2x5 years) it's 5000 baht per year. Which is about the price of a non-o extension with 3 re-entries for that year.

Also keep in mind that LTR-WP gives you tax exemption for money remitted to Thailand. Which in some cases this alone would give a huge profit over the other visas and make this visa incredibly cheap.

Chris Evans Yes. You don’t renew the visa you just extend your stay. If you want to leave then you need to get an entry permit.

You need to report to immigration every 90 days. The first time in person and subsequent times can be online.

Chris Evans Can extend your stay yearly as long as you meet the requirements.

You need to look at a retirement visa, there are 4 or 5 different ones depending on your requirements but most people get a 90 day Non-O visa in their home country before coming to Thailand. Once you get to Thailand you would need to open a bank account and transfer in a minimum of 800k baht into it to apply for a 12 month extension of stay, the money must season in the bank for 2 months so that's the priority. To open a bank account you'll need a residence certificate from immigration so pick up their requirements for the extension while you are there

Chris Evans There is also the option of NOT fronting the 800k bht for Retirement Visa. Its fronted by an Agent and the cost is 25k-40k bht for the first 15 months, easily renewable each year for 20k bht/12 mths.
