What is the best U.S. phone plan for receiving texts while living in Thailand?

I use Tello…. It sucks in the U.S. but works great here in Thailand using wifi calling and texts. $10/month. You will want a VPN also so places you call(banks, doctor offices, government offices) think you are in the US.

I pay T-MOBILE $3 a month with a prepaid plan. When I travel to US I activate a full plan for the time I’m there. Used it for 20 years.

I use Google fi. after 3 months they cut off my internet but calls and texts ok. free calls via wifi if you're on it. I'm not recommending it, just telling what I use.

I also have a AIS sim and number here. Make sure, if you are staying in Thailand, that you get a proper sim and number. many are tourist numbers and can be restricted.

Bring a backup phone as well.

Verizon has plans that are reliable when it come to texts. Not sure how expensive.

I use google voice. Works for most things but I have some issues with the more serious verification stuff. You would need to use your friend's phone number and they'll have to verify every 3-6 months.

If your in Thailand just use the house Internet and messenger as I do right now, sim at airport and let it run out, phone think it has a sim just use the house Internet free messenger

Get a thai sim or esim and turn off data on your US sim. You should still be able to receive texts. The problem might be that you could also receive calls, which could cost you

Google Fi. It's real mobile number and can give you data in a pinch. But don't leave data on for 90+ days or they might shut you off.

Use AIS. That’s what my cell carrier has used from USA when i was in Thailand. I’ve had Verizon att and T-Mobile here and they use AIS.

Moved here 2 months ago and I’m on last month contract with tru.

if you just need to receive short codes to your North America number, port your number to NumberBarn. They will forward your SMSs (and voicemails!) to your email.

AIS has been great for me. Get the post-paid Unlimited data. It’s cheaper than the others.

‘VYKE’. Rent a United States virtual mobile number. Calls and SMS free to receive. Port your existing mobile number if you wish. Runs on top of WiFi and/or mobile data. Outgoing calls and SMS cost depends where you’re calling/texting. Used for 4 years myself.

T-Mobile for sure. Very seamless. Free internet. Free high speed internet when you first arrive up to a certain limit. I use it with dual SIM so I have both local and T-Mobile, that way I can still receive phone calls texts from us no problem. But also can receive local Thai phone calls and texts. I use esim for Thai.

Every year I am in Thailand for 3 months when the winter starts here in Denmark around November, I use AIS and pay 200 Bath Per month total 600 Bath for the 3 months.

I get unlimited Phone calls, SMS and internet.

Don’t use the one at the airport they are Independent and for that service with Ais they want 1,000 Bath Per month.

T-Mobile is in Thailand. I can message, email and call to US when needed

Watch out for roaming charges if you plan to drive and use google maps

Are you referring to SMS from your mobile service provider or texts over a data service provider (WhatsApp, Messenger, etc.)? To my knowledge, only TM offers free SMS texts and 3G data while roaming overseas.

There are 3 providers in Thailand. They all have similar coverage - sending text abroad and receiving is much cheaper on a Thai SIM or e-SIM. If you buy an e-SIM off another company, they will still be using AIS, Dtac or True as carrier.

some phones are not compatible with e-SIM so just exchange your home SIM for a Thai one.

Some phones have twin SIMs in which case you can keep your home SIM in place and use the Thai SIM a default.

I don't know of anyone who has come to Thailand that hasn't been glad to have a data package on their SIM. AIS provides very fast (110 -240 mbps) data in a variety of packages which will also have oie call and text allowances.

To get the right package, don't buy at the airport or at a - go to the provider shops which you will find in most shopping malls/centres.

I got AIS 1-2-call mobile internet, for 199 THB a month. It's enough to text an d receive an unlimited amount of messages by Whatsapp and LINE

UK sim receives text for free. I pay for a very cheap one just to keep access to my UK bank and other stuff. I use Smarty.com

I always get an unlimited data sim for around 500b a month. Runs my laptop and firestick from mobile phone data
