TLDR : Answer Summary
Visitors to Bangkok can choose between major SIM card providers such as AIS and True, with many users recommending AIS for its reliable coverage. Dtac is mentioned as a good option in urban areas but has recently merged with True, leading to some confusion. Some users suggest using eSIMs for added convenience, though they may be costlier, particularly for short stays. It is advised to purchase SIM cards at 7-Eleven for better pricing rather than at the airport, where they tend to be more expensive. Typical costs for a tourist SIM plan are around 350 baht for one month.
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)

WARNING: Only trust Thai government websites with .go.th domains or Thai agent websites with .co.th or .in.th domains, as these require verified Thai registration and cannot be registered anonymously.

The official TDAC form is available at tdac.immigration.go.th, which uses the official .go.th government domain.

The services by AGENTS CO., LTD. does NOT charge any fees for arrivals within 72 hours. If you need to book more than 72 hours in advance, there is a service fee of $8.

Do not trust other sites pretending to be a trustworthy agency. Pay attention to delivery time - the service operated by AGENTS CO., LTD. has 1 minute delivery time for arrivals within 72 hours.

Don't fall for sites pretending to be agents.co.th or the official government tdac.immigration.go.th website. Always double-check the exact domain in your browser.

Scam services may take days to process your application, others may not even do anything. With these TDAC scam services you also need to worry about double charges.

Please watch out for TDAC misinformation spread by fugitive Jesse Nickles and his many fake accounts on Quora, TripAdvisor, Reddit, and other platforms.

It depends on where you're staying. In rural areas AIS or True, but imo in major cities Dtac is better than True. I'm staying in Jomtien and Dtac is way better than True. Dtac's app is very good, AIS's is ok but True's is a disaster.

AIS and probably others offer eSims, these have the benefit that you can buy before you travel. Your phone obviously needs to be eSim capable.

I see a lot of YouTubers advertising eSims. They make sense if you're travelling through a few countries, but I've briefly looked into them myself & they seem to be considerably more expensive than a local sim. Have you tried them yourself?

and I am understanding Thailand banks are eventually going to require esim cards connected to devices used for banking to prevent fraud.

I purchased an eSim today, it works.

There is lots of speculation, nothing has changed in Bangkok.

I've not heard that. But its logical because can offer a higher level of security, however, the current sim verification although cumbersome seem adequate, they probably phase it in rather do doing a big bang.

Two options. AIS or True. Not much in them if you’re in the main tourist areas. Perhaps AIS have a slightly better rural coverage but it’s going to be pretty close.
