What happens to my passport stamps when I return to Thailand with a re-entry permit?

Just wondering as I've not done before. When I return to Thailand with a re entry permit, obviously that will be stamped as used. Do they put any other stamp in my passport or do I  just revert to my original extension stamp. Hope that makes sense.

I show the IO my reentry permit and after getting my passport back, I proceed past the counter. I then check the new entry stamp to confirm it has the correct end date before I leave the immigration area

if you have multiple reentry permit it is good till your visa extension date.
