Very hypothetical and not related to any real situation that I'm involved in but let's assume a minor on a dependant visa loses its parents while in Thailand. The child has no relatives in his home country and basically grew up in Thailand. Would it be naturalised? Or sent to an orphanage in its home country? Just curious if there is a protocol for this kind of stuff and what you guys think about it 😁

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion addressed the hypothetical situation of a minor on a dependent visa in Thailand losing their parents. Comments emphasized that the child would likely be returned to their home country with assistance from their embassy, and if no relatives could be found, the child might enter the orphan care system. Concerns were raised about the potential for naturalization, with most agreeing that the child is unlikely to be naturalized and would instead need to adhere to immigration protocols. The responses also highlighted the importance of ensuring care arrangements were made by the parents in advance.

I think of the strangest things in my quiet moments but this one tops the list 🤔

They would contact the appropriate embassy and be returned to there care.

Guess if no living relatives can be found would be put in an orphanage

Hopefully the parents would have considered this, made a will and found a relative or friend to take care of said hypothetical minor…..

It's a no brainer nothing hypothetical about it the child would be processed and returned back to its native country and put into care through the foster system it's highly unlikely the child would not have relatives living back home not saying its not possible but highly unlikely if the child has relative the may file for guardianship though the legal system

He'd be sent back to foster in home country

The child would go into the orphans adoption service of their passport country if there are no relatives, and they usually use a DNA test now.

Why would they be naturalized? They'll either need to find a visa that matches their situation or they'll be deported.

But a minor under the age of 15 cannot be fined for overstay and a minor under the age of 18 cannot be banned for overstay.

I would imagine the child will be sent back to the country it is a citizen of with coordination with the appropriate Embassy who I suspect would attempt to find a relative unless the child is half Thai.
