Hi if i get a non o retirement visa but do not manage to get bank account opened in time for the 800k to be in long enough, what happens. Do you just have to leave Thailand and get another Non o visa cheers
Answer summary
If you cannot open a bank account in time to meet the 800,000 THB requirement for your Non-O retirement visa, you will need to leave Thailand and apply for a new Non-O visa at a nearby Thai embassy or consulate. Alternatively, if you already have the necessary funds in a foreign account, you may return to Thailand as a tourist and attempt to convert your visa at an immigration office, though this option is not widely recommended due to varying office policies. Extensions may be available, and some people report having received temporary extensions to stabilize their situation.

You need proof of the 800k to start the process, I still needs to be there in 90 days time when you get the extension
I plan to apply for the Non O from the US for 3 month stay. Want 6 months total in Thailand so can I leave and apply again for another 3months non O from perhaps Malaysia?
not always the case they will often give an extension to allow you more time, you are giving bad advice. leaving to get a new visa would be a last resort
Ian Morrison there are two people in the comments saying they got 60 days, my advice would be go and see them before leaving the country for a new visa. advising people to go to an other country to get a new visa before speaking to immigration is bad advice
You need only to prove you have the equivalent of $800,000 bhat in a foreign account for at least 60 days. I am currently a few steps ahead of you. I now have my non O and a bank account, should have my retirement visa next month
Paterick Mikoose Patrick I'm led to believe the 800,000 or equivalent in foreign account only needs to be shown on your latest bank statement when applying outside of Thailand. I'm waiting on a reply from the embassy in London to be more precise. If the information I get is from them then that's the route I will go. There's good advice and wrong advice on here from many. The 60 day rule applies when the 800,000 is deposited in a Thai bank. So if you've got a 90 day non o and arrive in Thailand then you have 30 days to gat all the other paperwork done ie TM 30 bank account residency.
Kevin O'donnell I can only share what I am doing, with an agent. The 60 day rule also applies to foreign bank accounts, I am living it. Too many falangs here think they know everything, only to give poor advice.
The whole idea of Non O 90 days visa is to be able to open a bank account in Thai and transfer the funds (800K THB). And then after 2 months, you can get your 12 months extension of stay.
Penny Nave this was exactly how I handled it since I'm married to a Thai. Got my extra 60 days. Finished seasoning. Now under consideration and I get my full stamp early in March.
Ralph Tyson I applied for and received a 90 day marriage e-visa from the LA Consulate. While on that trip to Thailand I opened a bank account. I had an emergency that took me back to the US for 5-months. I applied for another 90-day e-Visa for marriage. After arrival in Thailand I ultimately applied for a Retirement visa because it better suited my needs. Because everything was in order my retirement visa was issued in 2-days. Hope this helps.
Yes, exactly that. Leave and apply for a new non-O visa at a nearby Thai embassy or consulate.
You could also potentially come back as a tourist and apply to convert to non-O at your immigration office, since you already have the bank account and the money. But this is not the recommended method as not all immigration offices offer this, and it will require at least 2 additional trips to immigration which can be all-day affairs at some offices.
