I have a 17-year old daughter (visa exempt) arriving on a return flight to stay with me on Friday for 10 days. Is she likely to get grief at immigration and what if anything, does she need to have with her?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A 17-year-old traveling to Thailand under visa exemption should prepare certain documents to ensure a smooth entry at immigration. While she is not likely to face significant issues, it's advised that she has around 20,000 THB or equivalent in cash, a return ticket, and proof of accommodation for at least the first night. Although these are legal requirements, many travelers report that they've not encountered inquiries for such documents. Utilizing a meet and greet service at the airport is also suggested for added ease.

when my kids were teenagers I used meet & greet service by Bangkok Flight Services, they would meet the kids as they got off the plane, take them thru immigration, collect bags and deliver them to me at Starbucks on 2nd floor. Great service everytime, they call me before plane arrives to confirm I am at airport and meeting spot, call once they collected kids from plane.

baht or equivalent in cash on her , a return ticket and proof of accommodation on first night , those a legal regulations , then she’ll get visa excempt , never been asked for any of these in last 30 years but that’s the legal requirement , can’t see any problem , just be at survarnabhumi when she arrives , . Immigration are not looking for young ladies going to visit there father .

She might need to present the ticket for the way back, bank statement that she has around 20,000 thb would be useful as well. Return ticket is a must I think and more important.

Unless she has extensive travel history back and forward you’ve nothing to worry about

She possibly could be asked about having available cash to spend?

Anybody under the age of 19 in Thailand, is classed as a 'minor'.
Lynnette *******
Or do you mean her age?

you couldn’t have been more clearer, check your first 6 words of your sentence. You asked for straight advice, yet again the Facebook warriors set in and then climb down. I hope your daughter arrives safely and you have a wonderful time, together in Thailand 🙏

yes I mean specifically her age. Should have been clearer.

Grief about what? You need to explain what issues she has that could create grief.

So she had a letter from her Mum, a guarantee letter from me. 600usd cash just in case. And in the end they never even asked her a question. Through immigration, baggie and customs in 25 mins. Wish I could say it will be that way for everyone. Thanks for the advice all.

sorry - didn’t mean to be condescending. Just genuinely wondering if age is a factor in visa exempts?

I'm trying to help. Maybe her age and a letter from you with accomodation details could be a good idea.

nothing. Genuinely sorry I asked.

Too many visa exempt entries? Her age? Passport validity? Etc.

I'm English. I know what it means. But what are your concerns? What is there about her travel in that would cause an issue with immigration?
