TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has obtained a Non-O retirement visa from the Thai Embassy in London and is planning to retire in Pattaya. They seek advice on the documentation required to open a bank account in Thailand, as well as recommendations for banks. Responses suggest obtaining a TM30 form from the hotel and going to immigration for a residence certificate, then presenting the passport and another ID to the bank, with Bangkok Bank mentioned as a common choice. Alternatives include banks in shopping malls and using agents for account setup.

Can anyone tell me what the combination security deposit and annual income means

Usually the banks in the shopping Malls are a better bet. All else fails about 4000 baht bank account guaranteed with an agent

Ask your hotel for a copy of your tm30 go to immigration to get a residence certificates ( need your tm30) once you have this then typically passport and one other form of ID then go try the banks, typically bangkok bank but I'm less familiar with pattaya. You should be good to go as you have a non o 90 day retirement visa. Go deposit 800k baht into the account and then after 2 months of the money being in your account apply for a 12 month extension

just to add you will need a Thai SIM card in your phone registered in your name to get access to the banking app

you're moving here so think long term. In the first few days you get here get a Bangkok Bank account, and the ATM card with the Mastercard logo. They have different cards, and only one can you use online. Also get a Kasikorn Bank account. You'll find after being here just a short time it's much better to have different accounts at different banks, as much of Thailand is moving to cashless payments very fast. I personally have four different accounts at two banks. It helps to keep everything straight when visa extension, and tax time, comes around, and just for convenience. Do a SWIFT bank to bank transfer bringing in your bt800,000, as then you have a FET that makes it very easy if you ever want to take the money out of Thailand as a lump sum in the future. Others will say use the Wise transfer method, but it has a pretty low amount that can be transferred in each transaction. Think about your driver's licenses after you get here. There are two different ones, one for car, and a separate one for motorcycle. If you have a motorcycle endorsement on your valid car license you can get both licenses without taking the written, or driving tests. After three months here you'll need Thai licenses. Also get an IDP before you come here to make it the easiest getting your Thai licenses.
