TLDR : Answer Summary
To renew a Thai driving license after 2 years, you typically need to present your old temporary license, a medical certificate, and your passport. Additionally, you may require a Residency Certificate. It is important to note that the temporary license must expire before you can obtain a 5-year permanent license, and if you are on a tourist visa, you may only be eligible for another 2-year temporary license.
An IDP is only valid for 90 days for insurance and is not designed to be used long term. Repeated IDPs while living in Thailand is not recommended. Should go for the Thai licence.
in surat they use a small circuit, bridge, some road sign etc... but only at the driving license dep. (konson) for the DL test. All schools train candidates on roads.
Its VERY basic, so when wife or daughter get the DL its better to continue the training of your family yourself.
Yep, just did mine yesterday. It’s actually 5 years from your next birthday. That’s how mine is stamped anyway. Had to do the stupid office driving test again too and a trip to immigration to substantiate the extension of stay stamp already in my passport. But if you have a work permit the immigration trip is not required.
medical certificate, your passport and your 2 year temp license.
Remember the 2 year temp one has to expire before you can get the 5 year permanent one. Also you need to be on a long term extension. There are reports of people on tourist visas only getting another 2 year temp one again.
, I am only quoting what I know is fact in Bangkok, the 2 year temporary license has to expire to get a 5 year one. And if you're not on a long-term extension you can only get another 2 year temp one.
did anything change since last year? Or is it different per province? In Chiang Mai you can get it 90 day prior and within 30 after the expiration date.
