What could be causing my skin irritation after moving to a new hotel room in Thailand?

For the past three months I've been having a major skin irritation issue on my neck and lower part of my face - itchy, oily red bumps everywhere. I normally don't have this problem. It started when I moved back into the hotel where I had been living for 2 years 3 months ago but in a new room. An acne solution from Eucerine and shaving after a hot shower is helping to keep it under control, but I'm wondering what's causing it. At first I thought it was my girlfriend's makeup or hair products rubbing off onto the pillow, but it still happened when we were apart for a week and I had just had the linens changed by the hotel. At this point I'm thinking it might be one of the cleaning products used by the cleaning company. Maybe they changed it recently and I'm allergic to it? I asked the staff if they could find out what cleaning products they use, but they haven't reported back yet. I'm assuming bleach because everything is bright white. Perhaps too much of it? What do you guys think it could be? Any ideas for how to tackle it? Has anyone else experienced this problem and figured out what the culprit was? Other possibilities I guess could be bacteria brought inside from my dog, a fungus or something in my room, pollutants in the air, etc. Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user discusses experiencing itchy, oily red bumps on their neck and lower face, which began after moving into a new hotel room. They suspect the cause may be related to cleaning products or allergens from their girlfriend’s cosmetics, but symptoms persisted despite cleaning linen and being away from their partner. Users suggest potential causes like allergies (possibly to cleaning products or biological laundry powder), heat rash, bed bugs, and advise consulting a dermatologist for accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Go to a doctor, see a dermatologist.

Air pollution can cause skin problems or worsen existing allergies. A few people have mentioned shingles. Shingles typically happens on one side of the body, but not the other.

But yeah, go to an actual doctor. I got my medical degree on Google just like everybody else here.

Obvious see a doctor, but chances are they wil diagnose it from finding pictures that resmebe it. So look for yourself on google images for skin problems. But see a doctor. I paid a doctor, consultant and was expensive, he diagnosed it from pictures on his database.

It sounds as if you have bed bugs or dust mites in your bed or one of the towels you used was not cleaned properly. It is best you see a doctor as anything over the counter you may apply could cause further irritation or even permanent skin lesions, if it is shingles it just be treated within the first 24 hours so that it can be effective otherwise any treatment is less effective and takes much longer to be cured.

Please go to a doctor and try not to use skin care products containing fragance/perfume because it'll make your allergy worse.

Based on your profile pic it's also worth checking for an allergy to your motorcycle helmet materials 😜

I’m not sure where you are in Thailand but health care is amazing here man. Go to a doctor (dermatologist)

Sounds like an allergic reaction - a dermatologist I was talking to reckoned everyone has an allergy threshold, and a increase in temperature, humidity, maybe even cleaning products can tip one over into irritation.

Like others have said, you probably should try to visit a dermatologist.

But NAD. Best of luck to you. 👍

I had a similar problem many years ago- it turned out that the culprit was biological washing powder. There are enzymes in the powder to make whites shine, the problem is that many people are alergic to them.

In my case I changed biological powder for soft soap powder, washed everything 3 times and the itchy rash disappeared.

I'm curious if this is a common issue people are currently experiencing which might be due to pollution or a fungus/bacteria outbreak of some kind, or if people have experienced the same thing before in Bangkok or elsewhere and know what's causing it or how to treat it properly. I usually get nowhere with doctors in Thailand. They'll likely prescribe 2 creams and 3 oral medications and ask me to come back in a month to see if the symptoms have improved...

@Jake ******
Thai doctors tend to employ what my Australian doctor described as a scatter gun approach, not properly diagnosing and aiming medication at a variety of possible causes. Got to a dermatologist and insist on a test.

I can understand what you want, but depends on personal, even though be bitten by a bed bug or other infection. Although the same bed bug, someone was not serious, but someone might be serious. We have the same dilemma about Thai doctors but we have no choice either. show your symptoms and how much you have difficulty. at least it would be better for you than take time here. hope to be well soon

I had a similar issue but for me it was due to night sweats. I use to sleep with air-conditioning but it's not working all night with the night temperature in January. I'm using also a fan with the air-conditioning now , and the problem is solved for me.

comeon it would affect his partner too. It could be he's got heat rash

Maybe get you own plows and cases then wash them yourself to see if things improve. If the hotel does inhouse laundry go and see what powder they are using. Find a better quality one toh wash your self
Steve *******
dermatologist -- get a bottle of benedryl and take a teaspoon or 2 of that when you have symptoms that's what they will do at a hospital - except via IV Drip. Sounds like a chemical reaction - no pun intended.
