2 weeks into a 90 Day non o and had to leave Thailand for unexpected business, taxi was late to airport and didn’t have time to sort a re entry permit ! any way round this on my return this week ? Thanks for all advice
Summary so far
The user left Thailand unexpectedly two weeks into their 90-day Non-O visa without obtaining a re-entry permit. According to community responses, the visa is now considered canceled upon their departure. The user can re-enter Thailand using a 60-day visa exemption and may apply for a new Non-O visa while in Thailand if they have met certain conditions, including maintaining an 800,000 baht balance in their Thai bank account. There is no retrospective remedy for the visa; they must start the application process anew. The community recommends obtaining a multiple entry permit for the future to avoid similar issues.

It is (was?) certainly cheaper to live in LOS than in a country like mine (Australia). It depends on the amount of day to day certainty ordinary citizens can afford. Our (to some) exorbitant taxes and prices provide a relatively acceptable level of protection from infestations of corrupt chancers in positions of public and private responsibility.

Non-O Visas - without multiple entry (if you get the visa from Embassy before entering Thailand) or a re-entry permit before leaving Thailand, the visa is classified as used. You shall need to go through the process of getting a new visa before coming back.

Your cooked

Back to the start again do not pass go

Rookie mistake

Curious if you had to wait for your flight because it doesn’t take long for the re entry permit to be issued

Come back in ln a visa exemption and get another non o in Thailand or get another non O in your own country which ever is the cheapest

If you don't need to leave more than 3 times a year don't bother with a multiple entry just but 1 entry when you get your visa ,that is what I have done so I have in cases like yours, in an emergency its in place already

I nearly got caught out myself because I renewed my visa 5 weeks before it was due to expire and I also had an existing multi entry permit.

I assumed that my multi entry permit was good until the expiry date along with existing visa which hasn't yet expired.

But apparently not, the entry permit linked to the existing visa. The renewal invalidated the existing visa along with the multi entry permit.

Fortunately after some discussion with a senior immigration officer they let me in on the existing permit.

If you end up staying on a longer term visa it’s worth paying the extra for multi entry. Even if you didn’t plan on leaving it gives you peace of mind. Especially if you intend visiting neighboring countries or an annual trip home.

Mick Aynsley makes sense for the extension. I always buy a multiple re-entry for the extension.

But OP was on the visa, which means 90 days. It is normal that people don't expect to leav during this period - different when you're on a 1 year extension.

BC Farang I know that. I was just making a suggestion for when they reenter and maybe apply for a long term visa.

Thanks mick started the process immediately, got residence certificate, opened bank account wasn’t going to leave until retirement visa with multi entry was completed but it came out the blue lesson learned

Richard Broderick since you have a Thai bank account already, you can come into Thailand on a visa exempt entry and apply for a change of visa using a TM86 and about the same documentation as you would need to a one year extension of permission to stay in the Kingdom. Cost is ฿2,000. If based on retirement the ฿800,000, bank statement and letter must be done on the day you submit your application. You need two complete application packages. You can then apply for the one year extension when the O visa is down to 45 days left on your permission to stay.

Kasikorn need non o visa id from home

I used a uk drinking license and immigration issued residency certificate, I used an agent for this 1000 baht as I couldn’t be bothered queuing and waiting around at immigration and the certificate can cost 500 baht anyway

Terry Bill McGinty how rude. I was just making a suggestion for the future for the OP or anyone else interested. Doesn’t have be a direct answer just related to the subject. That’s how one starts dialogue.

Ivan McAvinchey listen muppet, I know the in's and outs of the non O visa, the OP obviously knows too but didn't get to that stage because he urgently had to leave after two weeks... fuck nose what you and your bum chum Mick are trying to suggest, might a good idea to stay off the Chang and sober up.
Ivan ************
Ivan ************
Terry you can get a multi-reentry permit on the non-O extension at your local immigration, it costs 3,800 and is good for up to a year (i.e. your next extension). It's not a different visa. Many get this with their annual extension.

Mick is suggesting this as it means if you DO need to leave unexpectedly in the future, you don't have to worry about trying to get it at the airport.
Mick *********

Terry Bill McGinty you’ve got too much time on your hands mate.
Terry ***************
Terry ***************
Mick Aynsley he specifically said he entered in a non O, safe to assume he wanted a no n O for a reason, he said he urgently had to leave, reason doesn’t matter, he said he didn’t have time to do a reentry permit because of the taxi being late ie he wanted to keep his non O running, and his question was there a work around to get his non O reinstated, the answer being NO as I commented. So fuck nose why you gave a completely irrelevant comment to what he wanted to know, ps the multi entry visa is the most idiotic visa available and you suggested it to him… get a life saddo
Jim *********
Jim *********
No way around it your visa is dead, you will have to get a new Non O. This is why I never leave it to get a re entry at the airport, its too risky.
Richard ***********
Richard ***********
OP
Learned my lesson Jim but didn’t have time to get one anyway had to leave next day
Jim *********
Jim *********
Richard Broderick yes I can understand why you did it. It's best to always have one in reserve in my opinion. I always get one at the same time as I get my 12 month retirement extension. Or as others have said if you intend to leave multiple times get a multiple re entry permit for 3,800 baht.
Brian *****
Brian *****
Richard Broderick every year I get a multi re-entry permit at the same visit I renew my 12 month extension for this exact reason.

If you don’t travel often then a single entry should suffice and is worth the insurance.

Bit late now but I’d strongly recommend it once you’re back up and running with a new non-o.

Your visa was canceled when you left the country. You will have to start all over again

No, your visa has been canceled after your exit without re-entry permit. You can only do that before leaving, not after.

Did you manage to open a bank account in Thailand before leaving? If so you could apply for the non-O inside Thailand. If not you need to get another non-O before coming back.

Richard Broderick check the conditions for doing the "change of visa type" from the visa-exempt entry to the initial 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa under number 9 of this list from the Immigration website. Your Immigration might slightly differ . .mainly the requirement for having a rental contract is pretty liquid . . .

OP
Can you apply for a non whilst

Inside Thailand Stuart ? What about the stamp in the passport ? You mean use the previous one ?
Stuart ***********
Stuart ***********
Richard Broderick yes it's possible to get a non-O inside Thailand as you already have a bank account. Your original non-O was ended when you left Thailand, so you start again. When you transfer the 800,000 baht to your Thai account you must ensure it shows as an international transfer.
Greg ***********

Richard Broderick if you ticked the correct box in the WISE menue, it will show as having come from abroad

your previous one no longer exists. It is possible to apply for one in Thailand, but you must have at least 15 days left on your entry stamp and 800k baht in your thai bank account transferred from overseas. After those 15 days you return to immigration and get the visa stamped into your passport. Easier just to do it before you return

Good and interesting knowledge shared for those that didn't know this - me included. Thanks Stuart! It is necessary to have the THB800K in this account that has been opened or is the act of just opening it enough for this different stipulation to be met? I appreciate that the standard conditions of the non-O visa would need to be met at some point, for example by transferred the THB800K to K bank in this case when on a 60 day visa exempt visit and then applying for the non-O visa with the funds to hand? All thoughts much appreciated

Ivan McAvinchey only for retirement or can I do this for marriage and 400k - already have bank accounts etc from previous years here
Ivan ************
Ivan ************
Patrick you need 800k in it before converting to the non-O. The issue is it is now impossible to open the bank account on a tourist entry. But if he has it open already, he can put the 800k in now and then go on to convert.
Stuart ***********
Stuart ***********
Richard Broderick in that case you can get the non-O inside Thailand and just enter using the 60 day visa exempt.

Nope. You will need to apply for a new 90 day visa before returning to Thailand
