I have 2 thai bank accounts but are worried they will be closed. What are all the ”work arounds” if that would happen? I know about Moreta, Tag thai and true money. Is there anything else?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about the potential closure of their Thai bank accounts and is seeking alternatives. They already know about options like Moreta, Tag Thai, and True Money. Comments suggest additional alternatives such as the WAIWIN app, Wise account, and leveraging cash withdrawals from ATMs, despite complications with fees and limits. Recommendations for using foreign bank apps that operate in Thailand, especially for users from Asia, are also mentioned.

Where are you from? Most Asian banks have agreements to allow their customers to use their apps to pay in Thailand. You can use QR scan if you have a Korean, Japanese, Singaporean, etc. bank account.

I’ve just started using WAIWIN can top up using any bank I’m using Revolut and scan works on both personal and business. Download the app.

Tag Thai you can only top up in foreign currency and Moreta only allows business scans and the majority of places in Samui are personal despite being businesses.

True can only top up in True stores or 7-eleven or with a Thai bank can’t use a non Thai bank.

So far WAIWIN has been the best.

I’ve been looking for the same as OP as my thai bank was frozen 2 days ago

I’m on DTV so I’m not eligible for any thai banks

I’ve looked into all the options available, opted for DeepPocket at the moment but has high fees for top ups and a monthly charge for QR

Never heard of WAIWIN so I will download now and give it a go

Thank you 🙏

Anonymous participant I hadn’t I started Saturday, topped up 3k which is the minimum initially, but didn’t clear til Monday as it was weekend. I have used it and it does work fine.

Moreta I topped up using Revolut and they couldn’t add the funds for some unknown reason, despite emailing to say now accepting Revolut! It took them over a week to refund that back to me!

is there a way to use Wise other than just transferring money to a Thai bank account? What about paying local street vendors by QR code, Paying rent, Shopping Etc?

@Jared ********
I use it all the time as debit card for shopping, eating out etc. I don't think it can be used as QR Code. Some use it for rent.

With Wise you can get cash at ATM, cash is accepted almost everywhere in Thailand. I don't see the problem.

Yes of course you can use any debit card where it is accepted.

Anonymous participant if you have wise and a QR Code app like True you will be fine, you have access to many payment forms. Revolut is another multi currency account like wise

Cash is king

Anonym deltagare 345 It's not. I hate cash, it's very inconvenient and you get charged 220 thb or whatever it is every time you get it if you don't have a thai bank account.
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer Just get the maximum amount from ATM each time and the fee is just about one percent, nothing to be worried about.

The maximum amount is set by your bank in your home country so in many cases, including mine, it's not possible to withdraw even 20,000 thb. Even if there was no fee I still hate cash.

Anonymous participant but if you don’t have options then it’s a temporary solution

Why not use credit card with rewards? You only need cash in markets and street food. Grab and bolt

Take credit cards

Tops/7-11/grocery store take credit cards.
