The conversation discusses various methods used by expats in Thailand for making QR code payment transfers. Options include banking apps like Krungthai NEXT and Bangkok Bank, as well as payment wallets such as True Money and Moreta Pay. Users share their experiences, mentioning the practicality of these apps at various shops and the challenges with account verification and fees associated with some services. Overall, True Money and Moreta are popular choices, but users also highlight the simplicity of cash and international cards for those who prefer not to use QR payments.

I don't use QR. Just cash and my international card. So far I've survived here 10 years

you should get the full facts before commenting

Yes you do get a smaller rate

At the time I loaded up

Super rich 42 baht

Exchange booths 41.7

Kbank 41.5

Works out 0.01p in the pound difference

But within 10 minutes of having the money on the app I saved money straight off by paying the correct amount of money, for example a drink at 35 baht I would normally give 40 baht and not take the 5, this happened a number of times and saved a lot of money, worth the 0.5 baht I lost in the exchange

Sounds like a lot of work. I hit any atm and in 5 seconds I’m paying cash which makes the whole situation of tag Thai more work than just going to an atm

but that’s for cash at the atm, the guy obviously does not want to carry the cash and specifically asks about the qr code payments

yeah I seen their terms update they now charge you to use it per scan. True money wallet allows 30 private transfers per month then 25 baht after for each scan

It doesnt charge you with buisness QR scans

If you can't get a bank account, then True Money is the next best thing. You can get it on DTV, and you can go through the steps of secondary authorization, which will then allow you to do PromptPay QR also (the most common one)

But True Money can be used at Big C, 7-Eleven, lotus, Lazada, and plenty of other places

I opened a true money account ~10 months ago on the DTV and they randomly deactivated my account even after all the verification…

Moreta is next best thing. TrueMoney is pretty pointless since you have to withdraw cash to top it up

Anonymous participant Krungthai usually just swap it onto another phone and aren't bothered about your visa. It's Bangkok bank closing accounts.
