What are the visa options for part-time teaching and YouTube content creation in Bangkok?

Been living and teaching in Vietnam for the almost 10 years but I feel like I need a change of scenery, so planning on moving to Bangkok sometime next year. On top of teaching, I also run a semi-successful YT channel on the side so don't want to teach full time, 15hrs a week is more than enough for me. Due to the channel, I haven't had time to get a PGCE unfortunately so I only have a TEFL.

I read online that I need to earn a certain amount each month in order to keep my visa, and that most schools don't support the visa costs/application, especially for a part timer - is this true? What are my options? I'm from the UK if that matters.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning to move from Vietnam to Bangkok while only wishing to work part-time (15 hours a week) due to a side hustle—running a YouTube channel. They seek clarity on visa requirements, specifically if they need to meet a minimum salary to maintain their visa and whether schools will support visa costs for part-time positions. Commenters clarified that a work permit typically requires a salary of 50,000 baht per month, which might not be attainable for part-time work; thus, the user might consider applying for a DTV (Digital Trader Visa) instead, which can accommodate their online work and lifestyle preferences.

You need a different plan. It's not going to work.

Could you teach on-line instead? That could come under the DTV. It would have to be foreign students.

You can't get a visa and work permit for part time. You can pick up part time work but no visa so you would be illegally working. A DTV visa would be best for your online work.

DTV sounds like The logical choice for you

5 year multi entry visa that is broken into 180 day segments…every 180 days you have to do a border bounce

Drawback….no Thai bank acct

But I can't teach on a DTV. I've been considering going full time on YT but I think I'd miss teaching. No Thai bank account for 5 years would get frustrating I think too.

The LTR would be an option in a year or two actually, thanks for that. Could live in the DTV until then.

You won’t get a part time gig teaching to obtain a work visa in Thailand

They are very precise in their view of what is and isn’t work visa authorization

You could open your own business in Thailand and Create your own work visa

To be eligible for a work permit, your salary must be 50,000 baht per month. I think it's a little different for schools since they are essentially government entities, so can get away with lower pay and still qualify. But they can hire 2 full time Thai or Philipino teachers for the same pay that you would require for wanting to work part time. So you can do the math based on that.

If the teaching is not the point, and not needed for survival, then you are much better off trying for a DTV based on your YT or a soft power activity and focusing on that.

Thanks, do you happen to know what the approximate salary would be at a public school/language centre? Bearing in mind I have 10 years experience.

35k - 45k (wall street english offer work permits for part time teachers, this is very uncommon). As Brandon said, DTV based on your youtube would prolly be best option.
