Hello everyone

Today I went to MTT immigration

To extend my tourist visa

And immigration officer told me from August 1 to September 26 you have to exit from Thailand and if we exit between August 1 to September 26 than we don’t need to extend visa

If we cannot exit from Thailand upto 26 September and than only we have to extend visa with embassy letter with out embassy letter we will not get extension

Do any one knows this please advise

TLDR : Answer Summary
Visitors in Thailand must exit between August 1 and September 26 to avoid extending their tourist visa. If they cannot leave by September 26, they will need to apply for an extension with a letter from their embassy. Overstaying past September 26 could result in fines of 500 baht per day and other penalties.

how about we WAIT until this new amnesty actually starts before we start guessing how it will really work?

We are done...

What are the fines/ penalties for overstaying after 26 September.

Does anyone have an idea.

Normal Overstay fines are 500 baht per day. Maximum of 20k Baht. If you get caught overstating, you can be arrested, deported and blacklisted. In other words, get an extension of stay before the 26th of September or, if you can't, go home.

What is so difficult to understand? You have until 26th September to get out and make a visa or go home. If your home country is closed due to covid then you have to ask your embassy for a letter saying so then can get extension.

If there are flights and your country isn't closed then you won't get a letter and thats it.

This is a grace period to prepare to leave and make travel plans not an amnesty!

They will not just keep giving out tourist visa extensions because you feel like staying a bit longer im afraid.

What about if you do decide to stay after 26 September, should you request an extension with ambassy letter now or in September?
Ellie *******
If you "decide to stay", you NEED to get an appropriate visa/extension. If you CANNOT leave the country before 26th September, you have to get a letter from your embassy when you apply for the extension based on being unable to return home.

Personally, I don't think that reason - no way to go home before the due date - works with the letter issued two months before the limit.

No, if you exit before 26 September you do not need an Extension of Stay,

That sounds right. The new amnesty starts on August 1, so go in on August 3 (a Monday) and apply for the extension
