TLDR : Answer Summary
Traveling with a service dog from Canada to Bangkok involves understanding both Canadian and Thai regulations. Key steps include consulting with airlines regarding their specific pet policies, especially for service dogs, and verifying Thai import requirements found on official government websites. Input from community members indicates that minor breeds can travel in-cabin with the right documentation, such as health certificates and vaccinations. Be aware of potential complications with feral dogs in Thailand. Overall, it's crucial to follow the airline's policies and the import rules to ensure a smooth transition.

I just brought my dog out here about a month ago. Everything’s OK yeah there is a lot of feral dogs but they’re usually not too bad. They like to bark sometimes if you walk around and walk around with a stick and there’s a lot of hotels don’t take dogs but you will find a few.

I flew my dog from the US into Chiang Mai, Delta and Korean Air. My dog is small and rode in the cabin at my feet. NO quarantine. The requirements were essentially: microchip, vaccines, health certificate within 10 days of flight. And a fee. The airline fee was $200 usd and the import fee was I think 500 baht? Don’t quite remember. Not all airlines allow dogs though, so I’d check first. And I don’t know how the rules change for service dogs.

Rules for dogs flying from Canada are identical to these:

*******************************************************************

You'll have to check for Canada's rules regarding licensed and registered service dogs flying in the cabin with you.

I know you that you didn’t mention the US but the link will allow for you to select your country on the home page. Best wishes. It’s not too complicated and the flight for the animal should be entirely free. I have two standard poodle service dogs. šŸ•ā€šŸ¦ŗ We do this and you got this! Enjoy and good luck!

Check with airline. I flew during covid with air canada from montreal to bkk. My small dog was in the cabin with us. Pretty easy and straight forward. Follow the steps on the thai goverment site. No quarantine, dogs was out with us within half an hour.

there's no quarantine to enter with a dog. There is paperwork for importing and exporting.

I think my reply was overly broad

I was thinking about Great Britain = I know what a friend of mine had to go thru there.

Hopefully it is truly easy from other countries.

it's the return trip home that can be onerous.

there's no quarantine in UK. There's titer testing prior to import, process can take 3+ months.

Animal import permit->Animal control all these can be find and done online. DO NOT purchase your ticket without consul an airline because there’s pet policy and only limited 2 per flight.

Beware when you do go out that Thailand has a huge population of feral dogs that will dismember your dog unless protected. Even dogs with owners allow their animals to defecate/urinate on every street in the land whilst wearing a mask against infection!

I love sensible debate. My friend had his dog ripped to pieces after escaping from his garden. What about children & dog bites? Rabies injections? Hospital stats?

Probably best contact the appropriate airlines companies to see what regulations they require. I am sure they will know the destination and any transit stops requirements
